Mystery solved.

They DID have barndoors!

I received these pictures in my mailbox today, they were emailed to me by someone of the Parein family.
Unfortunately he doens't know where the barndoors are now.

What a big "gift".....very surprised about that real thing....and suprised that they use 51/52and also 53/54 if you look on the 3d bus on the last pics.

what strange is that on that same last picture the number plate of 51/52 was a number plate used after 1954...but crazy...long time that i was so positive surprised with such information...BIG DEAL for Belgium!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks on the discover

x2 !!!

...finally Boss, first proof they DID drive on our roads, and not only used as a cookie-box and toy !! GREAT !!

PLUS the plates, just as you said, number 28 has younger plates on the 'group' picture... so that must be after they had to remove the enamel (emaille) plates from the oldest pictures... you also see the last bus in te row is a non-barndoor... GREAT pictures!!

Number 28 in the group pic also has different colored wheels and different colored bumper than number 28 in the first two pics. Either updates done to the bus before it got a newer plate or different bus. The front of the sign on top of the bus appears to look different too. Very interesting pics!!! Looks like the other vehicles in the group pic could also be company vehicles. Maybe not 28 barndoors, but rather 28 (or more) vehicles in their "fleet".

The definitely didn't have 28 VW buses.
Dimitri Parein has recently written a book about the history of the company and he has created a website (http://www.parein.eu/) with lots of info and photo's. There you can see older cars with lower numbers.

#28 is gorgeous ! love the detail shots with the dark two tone bumper !
no rear bumper, must be pre 54. group shot also shows a 1955 (US) Ford Fairlane Victoria and most probably an International Pickup truck. way cool line up for a European Co. of the time !
Love the garage shot with the 53 Chev in front. these old pics are killing me ! Cool
thx for posting

if you look at the licence# on the box it says 817...
compared to the 905... of #28 it is quite in the same 6 digit range. So they might even have taken the box plate# from a real bus Question
also the box shows a '50 so that would fit the lower plate#

I remember reading this thread years ago and thinking that with all the details on the biscuit tins that the artist must have worked from a real logoed bus.

Now to see the real thing, that's so cool.

Next update, logoed bus found! I can hope, anyway.
