"AND THIS IS THE SHIT YOU FOCUS ON?"
probably because it was worded in a way that offends some people, and rightly so...if peter is "bewildered" by the response he got, he should think before he speaks or writes
I'm off to williamsburg tonight, an area, by the way, that I have never felt the need to refer to as having a "high jewish population"...perhaps I will have difficulty parking and will have an argument with a "fat catholic"? or maybe a "skinny blonde" LOL
how about a fat new yorker? or just a fat guy?
referring to someone as a "fat jew" is not the same as referring to someone as a "hipster"
the word itself is not and should not be derogatory; however, the issue arises in the usage and interpretation when it is used...you can read the following link for more on that perspective...it is also impossible to ignore the reality of how the word has been used throughout history

I have, again, read the entire thread. Except for the debacle in that horrible jewish neighborhood, with the rabbi, and the fat jew, Peter has never described anybody by their body shape or supposed (because you can't see "JEW") religion. It's a great read that I enjoyed. Here is his typical entry, one from page #1 about a group of VW enthusiasts:
PEOPLE
People on the meeting seemed to be very nice. There was the guy who I met 2 days ago and knows the Spanish. Then there was an older couple who travelled in RV to Argentina and now they wanna go to Alaska in a bay Westy (they are selling split panel to finance the trip). Really nice folks. Then there was the guy with the other split: it was a double cab in very nice condition. He said the fabricates all the metal pieces (like KlassicFAB) and he have 4 split that he owns and 2 for clients at his house. So I went to his house to take a look. Very nice.
I've seen the picture as well. Some of these folks were fat. None were called that. They all had beliefs, but none were assumed, inquired about or needed mention. It was "the guy", not the fat Mex...it was the couple, not the overweight Baptists.
Young Peter has an obvious "thing" with Jewish folks. He's entitled to his xenophobia, as well as I'm entitled to call it out. I don't know where on the scale between insensitive to skinhead he lies...I absolutely do not. Just don't sit back because you like him (I might too if I met him), and pretend that all of a sudden in a 37 page journal, he becomes a different writer who all of a sudden needs to color his characters in with the brush of "fat" and "jew". Show some integrity and guide the young man to either become more accepting of others or at least more respectful...if not of jews than at least of the words he chooses that reflect poorly on his character. _________________ Looking for a correct 1967 rear seat

Just wanna let you know guys that I have successfully finished Bolivian bureaucracy regarding my new Chinese motorcycle and got my license plate.
It was a hell, but I was able to get it done. Only one bribe was involved in the process in the amount of circa $7 U.S. dollars to speed things little bit up at one office. The cops themselves asked me for it: Do you want to wait 48 hours or speed things up?
There are no vintage VW in Bolivia to speak of. So that's why I went with the bike for now.
After I got my plates, I drove around Lake Titikaka to Peru and I am in Puno at the moment, where there is biggest religious party in Peru - Virgen de Candelaria. Hundreds and hundreds of dancers and musicians marching on the streets dressed in colorful costumes.

Has anyone heard from Peter lately? We've texted back and forth from time to time over the years, and PM'd on occasion, but he seems to have dropped off the grid. Just curious if he's doing alright. Traveling 3rd world countries alone can have a downside.
I remember he'd left his bus with someone ... Uzi perhaps .... at some point before heading to Chile. Stayed in touch for a while when he was down there, but haven't heard from him since. |

Never mind. He texted me about 10 seconds after I posted the previous inquiry.
"The power of the internet" as he put it. |

Hello everyone!
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.... and yesterday was my bday! So many things at once!
My bus adventure is about to start again soon.
I bought a motorcycle in Bolivia a while ago.
Then I traveled on it across the whole Chile from the northern most point in Arica all the way down to Patagonia to Ushuaia.
Then I went from there back north thru Argentina. Then back to Chile.
I crossed the border between Chile and Argentina back and forth many time at different places. I like it down here very much...
I am in Osorno now. Huge volcano exploded next to my apt. few weeks ago.... it was much fun!
But it's been a long time since I have seen my family and also my bus! Like 3 years or so!
It's time to do something about that...
So I am planning summer trip to the US and Europe.
I would like to leave in about 1 month.
I want to visit UZI & mattcuddy in Philly and maybe some more folks around there. Then load the bus on the boat and get to Europe. And there do first Euro trip with my bus all the way to Czech Republic to see my fam.
That's the idea ... Now, let's see how it goes in reality. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Europe has changed a great deal in the last 3 years. I just spent 6 months in Germany/Italy and the immigration issues are overwhelming at times. Keep a very close eye on your Bus once it get across the pond. Safe travels! _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

If you travel near Barcelona (SPAIN), please, let me know. In May 2016 I'll set up a split buses only meeting that you'll get the longest distance award for sure...
Really, let me know if you drive near Barcelona.
