Hi all,

We're busy with the metal on my '54 Kombi and there are a couple of holes that we're not sure about...

Should these be closed up?

These two are in the centre of the 'dash'...

...and going off-topic, is there a decent stencil of the fuel tank markings available somewhere?

Thank you. Smile

I think none of those holes should be there. dash was probably for an add-on ashtray as often seen.
above licence plate recess looks like holes for a 'Volkswagen' badge, but they only introduced that later ( early 60s?) and I think the lid came without holes for licence plate mounting, because all the different countries have different plate sizes. Though BDs did have welded in threaded nuts for the plates on the front bumper .

That sounds right, I don't think any of those holes should be there

Thanks, chaps.

I'll have 'em closed. Smile

I need to find some of those captive nuts for the front bumper...

Somewhere here I have a really nifty photo of them as a reference, if any of you would like to see them?

I agree on all the holes.

If someone can provide a stencil drawing / PDF / architectural-type diagram for the site, I would like to add it to the Technical area and the Barndoor FAQ.

The nuts come up in the Gallery in you search on Barndoor bumper nuts

You can buy the nuts for the front bumper easily, they are called 'Weld Nuts'

I do, please.

I'm going to need to a set of front bumper mounts from you too at some stage, if you don't mind these sitting in a corner for me, for some time?

Thanks.
