A triple Z (ZZZ) vin number on a vehicle over 25 years old is not a problem.
A vehicle imported as a "parts" car might be. The Feds would want to make sure it's not structurally unsound. _________________ Currently:

And that's what scares me.
Vic is right "Over the hump in Pahrump", as slick and sleazy as they come, brought in a bunch of these. Knowing him I would expect them all to be parts car status.
If this is one of his its very likely to be a pooched situation. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

This T25 Singlecab was sold to Vanamania some years back. It was bought from a guy from the San Francisco Bay Area, who supposedly brought it over a decade before from the UK. The man is a Brit expat. He said it was originally a diesel which he converted to aircooled. By the time I saw it, it had a 1.8 inline-4 with a Weber so close to the frame rail that it was not possible to put an air cleaner on it. It was ran that way and would occasionally have flames licking out from the backfiring.
He was advertising it as an '82. Money changed hands. When the papers arrived after the bill of sale, it said it was a 1957 Singlecab. This vehicle was only driven to Van-O-Rama and bURNINGvAN as the new owner was apprehensive about the consequences of this defective title. Inquired with a "friendly" CHP officer. He said the VIN is not stolen and just don't drive it like you stole it.😳 Anyway, it never sat well with the new owner. Eventually an offer was made by Vic and money changed hands again. The were some outstanding issues unrelated to the truck but with the same party. As a consequence, the title is still with (ahem) YOURS TRULY. As far as I was concerned, it was sold as a parts truck.
There were large dents on the cargo bed and rust damage on several areas. On my subsequent visit to sort out other matters in Pahrump, I was shown the truck in partial restoration. It appeared some bodywork had been done though the quality and extent is unknown. The doors had been replaced. Replacement gates were provided but not installed at that time. The engine and transmission had been removed and so was the 2-person bench seat - replaced with armrest seats. It was being advertised as a 1985 model sans title for $4900 right here on Samba. I don't know how the present owner had come to own it. I can only assume it was purchase from Vanamania or perhaps he is selling on their behalf.

THANK YOU, for filling us in on the story behind this.
Too bad that this may now probably get squished. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

You can probably legalize that thing by now. It's old enough.
Wondering what they did with the '57 VIN plate.😳 _________________ BenT |
