We haven't really had the camper out lately, since our yearly camping trip to Natural Bus in early June. Natural Bridge, VA. is about 180 miles from us and the bus ran fine there and back. But my wife needed to use it to run an errand the other day and notice the power was down. She brought the bus to me and took the Jeep home so that I could drive it and figure out the issue. As soon as I started the bus I could tell I was missing a cylinder and pulling plug wires showed it to be number 3...what a shock, lol. Anywho, since that time I've tested the plug wire (good), the plug (good), and compression on that cylinder (110). The bus is a '77 with the original motor (rebuilt a couple of years ago) running a carburetor and hydraulic lifters. Using a flammable spray, I've checked for intake leaks, with no luck. The cap and rotor button were new Bosch units a little over two years old. While running, I can pull the wire and hold the end right near the cap with no fire jumping at all.
Any ideas? _________________

Clean the inside of the cap and the rotor. Or try new ones. _________________ Rick

How did you determine the plug wire was "good"? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I have an Accufire. But I should probably check to make sure the magnet hasn't fallen out of the trigger ring.

With an ohms tester |
the insulation on the wires breaks down over time. Observe it running at night and look for a halo or arcing along the wire. Testing with an ohm meter will only give you an open or excessive resistance. _________________

You said you checked the plug. Is it a resister type plug? If so, did you check to see if the resister isn't toast. I've had two resister plugs go bad and it took me a long time to figure out it was the plug the first time. _________________ Joey

The plug might be failing under compression. Try rotating the plug to a different cylinder and try it there. Both hot and cold. And rotate the wires for humour. _________________ Brett
