|

ok , i pulled the dash out of my customers 70 bay window about 3 months ago because he wanted to get it redone but just dashes in white. hes been wanting to do it for a while. i took good pics of all the wires i removed . ive got it mostly back together and everything works except the turn signals. the flashers work and the brake lights work. when i turn the turn signals on the lights stay lit on the dash but theres nothing outside. when i turn them of the flasher clicks once. someone hacked in a 2 wire flasher and connected some wires together at the flasher. i dont even know if that will work. i asked the owner if they ever worked and he doesn't know. i ordered the right flasher and will have it tomorrow but i'm not sure if thats what is wrong. any ideas? there are also a few other wires not hooked up. thats how i found it but possibly could be a prob. the only other thing not hooked up that i know for sure is the brake light in the bezel . it wasnt hooked up before but i want to hook it up. thanks for any help

Sounds like something a little while with the diagram would easily fix: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiringt2.php Also look at those highlighted ones for particular circuits.
The 2 wire flasher will work fine on a 70, the brown wire is a ground which isn't used on a 2 wire and Kbl piggybacks onto 49a for the dash arrows. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

| i've looked at that diagram half the day! i am not sure why ,if everything is hooked up right , it doesn't work. so the bk/wt, bk/yl, bk/rd, and bk/gn got to the lights. that leaves the brn/w that goes to the headlight dimmer relay..that works, and the brn than looks like its a ground and the bk/gn/wht that goes to the flasher and the grey wire going to the emergency flasher switch. how does it work ? that wold help me figure out what wrong |

bk/w = front left turn lamp
bk/g = front right turn lamp
bk/y = rear left turn/stop lamp
bk/r = rear right turn lamp
brn/w = high/low-beam signal (pull to ground to toggle)
brn = ground for above
bk/g/w = flash signal from flasher - to 4-way switch and turn switch. in 4-way flasher mode, used to drive front turn lamps (directly, via 4-way switch terminals "L" and 'R') and rear lamps (via 4-way switch terminal 54f through the turn switch). Goes to 4-way switch terminal 49a and to turn switch 54BL. Note: normally the brake signal from terminal 54 feeds through to terminal 54f, but is disconnected when 4-way switch pulled and flash signal from terminal 49a is fed through instead. This is so that brake signal doesn't stomp on the 4-way flash mode.
There is no 'gray' wire, but there is a white:
w = 12 volt power from 4-way switch terminal '+' to flasher. Power supplied by 4-way switch: switched by ignition when switch pushed in (from terminal 15); unswitched when switch pulled out (from terminal 30).
See highlighted schematic

| Thank you much! It turns out all the wiring was right . The flasher someone used was an electronic flasher. I guess it takes more load to get it to flash cause it flashed with the em flashers on with all 4 lights but not when the turn sig with just 2. Changed out the flasher and it works perfect |
