I'm replacing the alternator on a 1973 super beetle I bought for my daughter, it is a basket case. I was replacing the alternator today and I noticed it doesn't have a thermostat, bracket or rod on it. I pulled off the fan shroud and dicovered it doen't have cooling flaps or linkage either. I have looked at various parts houses online and cannot seem to find any that sell these parts. Does anyone have any idea where to purchase these parts? |

New flaps are not made! But there are some folks rebuilding them look for "thermostat flaps" here on the samba. Most VW rebuilders pulled them out back in the 70's. Very few engines with them anymore! Rare find. I am buying some off the "the samba as we speak". _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

Search the classifieds here on the Samba. Many folks sell them. Also, you're in Anaheim, call the local VW shops. I bet they have some used ones there as well. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Look out for some local swap meets too. I was able to pick up a set of the flaps and the linkage for a good price. _________________ 1962 Bug

They do show up from time to time in the classifieds. Recently I obtained all the of the components flaps connector rod actuator arm and functioning thermostat delivered for 80 bucks from a guy in Oklahoma. Once I cleaned them up they are fine. Granted they are not the 140 powder coated ones, They still work. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
