We always tease Ben for not actually attending Syncrofest because he usually shows up Saturday afternoon, and is gone before the dinner bell.
Maybe we can shame him into an overnight stay this year!
There's never enough time to talk to everybody at the event, Ben bring a sleeping bag!
See you there! Bring campfire stories. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

For the uninitiated, would be good if this thread indicated where the event is. Hollister Hills, as per this site, although it needs updating for the new dates...? _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

I'm very loosely kicking around the idea of a cannon ball style two or three day nonstop run accross country with my Quattrosyncro van to attend this event. I'd fly back home and have the van shipped back to save time. It sounds like a lot of fun, both the drive and the event. Not sure if I can pull it off though.

Correct, that was last year's website. Waiting for the new one to materialize ... maybe around February or so.
If I understand your inquiry correctly, it's in CA and about 8 miles or so south of the town of Hollister which is about 65 miles or so SSE of SF.
Coming from WA in a straight shot, you'd likely take I-5 and exit on hwy 152 west over the Diablo Range eventually taking hwy 156 west going slightly past (to the northwest) of Hollister.
Then a turn-off south on Union Rd. thru hill 'n dale (boonies) to Cienega Rd which you take right to the Rec Area #5 which is right next to the road. There are Rec Area signs by the time you get to Union Rd (at least) but you have to pay attention.
As we get closer to the event the hosts may link to road maps or you can google that area and get some zoom-ins. It's really not as hard as it sounds --- you're in the boonies with few roads. |

Do it! I really want to see that van also. If you show up I'll buy you dinner and beer! If your going to ship one way then check the rates both ways first. It's usually cheaper to ship east to west than the other way around IIRC. Might be better to ship out then drive home. Gas is cheap right now. _________________ Please do not message me on TheSamba. Thanks for the encouragement. I'll take you up on that beer if I'm able to.
I'd want to get the road trip done before the off-road part, I dont want to feel like I'd have to baby the van knowing I've got a three thousand mile trip to do. I want to be able to beat the hell out of it at Syncrofest, I don't want to be afraid of breaking something or rolling onto the side.
I'd need someone local to there that would allow me to park the van at their location after the event to wait for pickup for shipping. |

Andrew
Do it ,come on out. I'd be happy to hold your van while you waited for pick up with your carrier , while Seth has offered dinner with Beer ,I can offer you free Hot dogs while you are at the event. Bring your kids ,this is a kid and wife friendly event. Go Westy brings their Jump house and there are plenty of side events for non VW interested people.
A couple of years ago , Jack brought out his Channeled "Rubicon' van which had people talking all weekend. My guess is this van would cause the same buzz.

Thanks Stacy.
If I can do this, I will take the offer for a spot to park the van.
I no longer have a wife, but my older boy wants to be one if the drivers. Not sure if he can get the time off of school though. |

Andrew,
I really hope you can make it out. It would be very cool to see your work on the QuattroSyncro in person. If you do figure out that you can free up the time, I will be happy to pay your registration fee to SyncroFest. _________________ Tim Potts
