|

Just curious if the aforementioned engine is the one that I have read on here as being used in the Vanagon as an upgrade?
Reason being, a local VW garage did a timing component maintenance at 90k on my daughters '04 Passat and somehow he "blew up" the engine....not likely and he blamed it on the whole oiling issue that the Passat was plagued with....well, I ended up putting another engine in it as my daughter needed it for school...
I surprised them when I backed my truck in and loaded up the "bad" engine saying it wasn't part of the deal and they at least wanted to keep the head....the whole thing resides in my garage....
Anyways, took the head off, and the cams out and it all looked great, no sign of starvation, then switched my attention to the turbo.....ton of slop....that was the culprit and it cost me an engine.....the cylinder walls lok great and no ridge at the top of the walls.....so, do you think it would be worth listing it for sale and maybe someone may need it so they can slowly rebuild it....it ran great before the preventative maintenance....smh
Sorry for the long read again _________________ I am in way familiar with VW's...but with the help of the great people on this site, I should be able to keep my daughters '68 on the road

Different versions of 1.8t are used by different people.
SAH has some info on their website you could read.
Define "blew up" and resulted in a motor change.
Now disassembled, you claim it is fine.
How much do you think a disassembled non running motor is worth???
People are likely interested in a complete running motor with all required parts, like ECU and harness. |

| That block and head is the identical one as used in the golf/jetta/beetle/audi TT. |

Hey Wellington, the long read pretty much explained it....the turbo had went bad and they replaced the engine....just wandering if this is the type of engine used in conversions....also gathering thoughts on usability of a now disassembled engine that had originally had nothing wrong with it....but I see what you (or maybe another poster) had mentioned that it would be better if it were together and running but even more desirable if it had the ECM, harness, etc....I might list it as what it is....an engine that needs rebuilt and a turbo....maybe someone who has already done the conversion could use it for a rebuild able spare...who knows and thanks for the input.... _________________ I am in way familiar with VW's...but with the help of the great people on this site, I should be able to keep my daughters '68 on the road

There are early and late versions of the 20V 1.8T the Golf/Jetta/Audi TT (180HP version ) are all pretty much the same engine from 2000......The Audi A4/Passat don't get the 06A block with the intregal engine block water pump until 2004 model year (maybe 2003...) The SAH kit is designed around the AWP 180HP motor (2001-2004)
There are threads on swapping the earlier 150HP AEB 20V motors into vans......one thing to know.....the transverse (Golf/Jetta/TT) motor have different water flanges/exhaust/turbo locations than the A4/Passat motors. Any can be swapped in some are easier to plumb intake/exhaust than others. _________________ I'm Cheap! I'll build that Syncro Westy myself and save money but, my labor is "FREE" especially if I ever go to sell it! One thing is I will know the quality of the parts and labor that went into the build and rest better when I'm actually driving said Westy down the road! |
