Well, I got a new seal to replace a badly deteriorated rear cargo door seal for my 71 deluxe. Any tips on removing the old seal and removing the residue? Can you recommend an adhesive? Tips on getting the new seal into the channel? Thanks. |

Thanks, will let you know how it goes this week. I am taking the van to the mechanic today to get the shift linkage rebuilt. Other than that, the van is mechanicly excellent. The body and paint are perfect. It runs fantastic. But all the accessories like door locks, rubber, guages, interior, etc. are shot and I will need to repair them. |

I use tubes of 3m weatherstrip adhesive. It should be available at your local auto parts store. Good luck with your project! |

Success! I installed the new cargo door seal in my '71. It took plenty of elbow grease to get the old rubber out. I had surface rust in one corner of the channel. So I used my dremel tool to wire brush the rust off and applied primer and paint. The new one fit excellent(got it from oldvolks.com). The new rubber looks kind of grey and feels foamy compared to the original, but it does fit and keeps the water out. |
