My top currently is leaking because the pop portion doesn't seal very well with the rear portion that doesn't pop I need to adjust it. If those panels are riveted on then can't I just get some of those panels from an other bus and drill out those rivets and re rivet them?

Can you show me a photo of what you meant though? When I saw a friends similar bus (71 Camper) his seems were all welded and looked as 1 large piece. Mine looks like someone put the panel over an existing panel and just riveted it on. My friends bus didn't look to have any rivets.

That riveted panel is not structural, it's only a thin layer to protect the insulation that keeps the motor noise down, there's a full welded in structural panel beneath it (you can see the back side of that one through the vents). I'm not sure when VW stopped putting them on but none on a 71 isn't suprising.

What are people doing for battery trays now? I have been waiting forever for gerson panels. No one seems to have them in stock.

Gerson.

I originally ordered some WW stuff long ago including the battery tray. I scrapped it all after my funky green arrived. Gerson is always worth the wait.

Agreed but how long do you have to wait? I have been watching all the suppliers for gerson for about four months now and none of them have the tray in stock. Can you order from gerson directly? Seems the battery tray would be a good seller and therefore something he would readily have on hand.

OEM VW are still available for driver's side:

http://www.busdepot.com/9556691

Can't find the passenger side though. I got a VW one for my bus about a year ago from Bus Depot but they seemed to dry up. Maybe Contact Antonio Trejo at VW Mexico to see if you can still get a real one. He advertises here. The reasoning that Gerson and Autocraft weren't making them for the late bays was that you could still get a VW one. Maybe that will change now....

EDIT: Looks like Schofield has them: http://www.alanhschofield.com/ourparts/prod_252138...3162N.html

Edit2: Or NOS: http://www.alanhschofield.com/ourparts/prod_3591438-NOS-Battery-Tray-7279-211813162M.html

Could try VW Classic parts in Germany but they won't sell to America, you need to find a dealer in Canada/Mexico to re-route it or a nice European Samba member to hook you up.

Yes you can order directly from Gerson. I ordered a piece from him about a year ago and got it from Columbia in 2 days. I couldn't believe how fast the shipping was.

I ordered from klassicfab too. It was great. I think it took my order about 2 weeks, but I got great parts for a fine price. My only suggestion is to plan out your purchase because shipping is a pretty penny.

The piece I ordered was the small strip to repair rust below the windshield. Larger parts probably aren't as quick.

Airhead was extremely quick in processing my order, as it was relatively small items. The tray is a Klokkerholm item, and with all the mixed reviews I received in regards to the front floor pan replacement and the needs to avoid the Klokkerholm stuff, I’m very pleased with the battery tray, seems solid and the price was unbeatable. Whether or not installation goes well, time will tell.

Internal parts from klocker**** will probably work fine but structural and visible outside body parts are not a good choice but sometimes a necessary evil to deal with.

As far as part #'s? ETKA lists many of those parts as NLA and does not supply the #. It seems to list #'s of stuff that might still be available.

Anyone know why the lower windshield repair piece is priced $150 from Monkeynut and Bustoration, but on Gerson's site it's $250? Higher price cause he's got to stamp one out if you buy one from him?
I may pony up and pay it anyway, I emailed Monkeynut asking when they would have more and they never responded.

Busy people. I emailed Gerson inquiring about floor production, got a quick response asking for clarification of my location, then nothing. I'm sure they are doing their best to keep up with demand!

I've had no response from Gerson regarding my inquiries about a right side pickup battery tray (Type 2b). Frustrating...

Edit: Within a few hours of positing that, I got an email reply from Gerson saying that he can have one made in two weeks. So, that's funny.
