|
|
I'm considering doing a rhd drive conversion on one of my buses....it's a 65.
Ignore the work that would need to be done...I just need to know where I can find a rhd dash.
I looked at klassicfab's website and they don't have one listed. I don't really care if the dash is real or a repro.
I don't even really need the whole clip I suppose....I guess that it would work if I just had the face...right?
Does anyone know where I can get one????
Thanks for any help |

if you are going that deep, maybe you can just convert the dash itself? _________________ regards

Agreed, if you have the skills to alter all the stuff underneath what's so tough about welding up a few holes in the dash? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Converting the dash is the easy part..... Check out this tutorial from CE below. Pretty simple

| Looks to me like that tutorial from Creative Engineering is seriously flawed. In their tutorial look at where the radio hole and grill end up. The radio hole should be centered in the dash (just as the ashtray is centered) no matter whether it is RHD or LHD. Secondly, the CE tutorial places the grill (slots) way too close to the speedo pod. |

i see what you are saying, however, the pod goes in the same spot on the other side. just cut in the right places and center it. _________________ regards

Visually it looks like the radio grill left alone or flipped would clash into where the pod should end up. Look up at the Ebay UK one and line up where the grills end up compared to the defrost outlets vs where the pod would be if place on a left hand drive one. |

I think you are right. Looks like you would need to fab a small piece to make this happen. Still seems easier than ordering one from somewhere and swapping it out _________________ regards

Couldn't you just chop a wider section out and flip it? Seems like the concept is right, just the art work is off.
It's probably less work to modify your dash than to swap out out, plus you don't have to spring for the donor clip, although you'll have about six feet or weld visible on the back side, with a replacement dash you could hide the conversion all together. |

| I've thought about this myself. Another thing to consider is if your bus is a walk-throu, like mine, the left side bulkhead, or drivers seat bulkhead, is wider than the right side. So I would guess on a RHD bus the left would be wider. Seems like a lot of work to me. I guess yours is a 65 so its a 60/40 bench seat, you would still have to move seat brackets around. |

Correct, and also what about the cargo doors? I forgot how many times people snubbed my LHD kombis for having them ''in their wrong side'' even if a dash/steering conversion would be attempted.
If because of your personal taste the only reason to spend time and money converting the dash, if it is for a future resale I wouldn't bother as people will always try to lowball it for been a conversion. Keep it in original LHD... |

Converting the current dash isn't really in my best interest. I'd rather keep it whole since it is in a very nice condition. Looking at the pics, it seems doable....but it's just not something that I would like to do.
The red bus in N.H. doesn't really help me. I am no where near close to that location and have no idea how I would even go about accessing it.
The dash on ebay would be great....but that price
My bus is a non walk-through...so no worries with the walk through sections. Plus my bus is tubbed....so the tubs are of equal sizes on both sides.
The positioning of the cargo doors doesn't really bother me...the bus is pretty far from "correct" as is. |

Can I ask the OP why they'd like a right hand drive bus?
There's a tonne of left hand drive buses from the states over here and very few have been converted, even though we actually (mainly) drive rhd cars.
Just wondering. _________________ MonkeyDubs!

I've been criticized for criticizing people with an overabundance of free time and welding equipment, so I'll stop right here. |

Here's one that has just come up on the uk website VZi

Postal cost needn't be prohibitive - just care taken to use the right shipping company. Guessing around £80 to ship. _________________ -StockRocks- |
