Hi, I'm having my 87 westfalia painted orange. It was originally silver. I thought about a light blueish silver but i want to use very dark window tints in case I need to stealth camp and to better block the sun here in soCal and that color looks bad with dark window tints in my opinion. The orange goes really well i think w them. I don't like a really light orange or too much of a brownish orange. but also don't want one that's too red. I told the shop that i like the Inka Orange 022 (from old BMW 2002's) but they said it wouldn't work due to problems if ever have to have touched up later or something like that. I want a bright but deep orange - it's very difficult to know if the ones online are what i want b/c of different lighting with the pics. I looked up 2015 Mustang's Competition Orange and it looks very diff't from photo to photo. I'm meeting my paint guy tomorrow to pick one. any suggestions? i also considered Brilliant Orange L20B (a VW color I believe). or if any of you have an orange vanagon or bus, can you post pic and tell me the paint and code? thanks!
this i consider too yellow:

this i consider close to what i want but a little dull:

this is very close to what i want:

I don't have an orange vanagon, but I have thought that Ford Grabber Orange might look good. Often seen on Rangers, and also on slightly older Mustangs maybe. Another I thought might look good is the orange used on Porsche P914. Both of those are easy to find online, but as you noted, online is not usually true to the colour in daylight. Should be pretty easy to find the Ford colour in real life; I see them here all the time.

Mention orange vanagon and Clementine comes to my mind:

I believe the color is VW Fahrenheit Orange ('07 GTI/GLI)

Bold color and a VW color. Works well on a vanagon in my opinion. I have seen this impressive machine in person.

The best thing you could do is to go down to your local auto paint supply store and ask to see their fleet catalog (preferably in the paint line that you guy is going to use). There you will find dozens of shades of orange ranging from yellow to red and everything in between. Look at the number of oranges available on the PPG chip deck in the first photo.

you should stick to silver to reflect sun - not sure why dark window tint is an issue

but... Porsche used to have a color called Tangerine

up here the girls drive their baby Buses in a color called TIllamook Orange

the color books will make your head spin

also a nice yellow called Buttercup is available

The current Ford Competition Orange, M7117 is a strong non original orange, and you can go to the Ford dealer to see it on a new car. It is always a tough call choosing color. Good luck.

If orange is your thang, I recommend Kasan Red L30B. My high school hot rod was a '72 Fastback in that color

Check out L26Q - Orange. It was a color used on some emergency/civil service vehicles in Germany.

Hi California562, i'm in the process of picking an orange/yellow for my 84 bus and came accross this thread.

Just wondering what you went for in the end and if you have any pics?

One of the slightly weirder colours we've been looking at is Bahama Yellow: https://www.rennbow.org/porsche-colors/BahamaYellow

Quite like the muscle car oranges too.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, California562 hasn’t been on the site since 2019. He has no pictures saved on Samba.

Personally, I like orange more than anything yellow-ish. The Trailbreaker posted above is a beautiful rig!

Check out VW's current orange color - Habanero Orange as a possible candidate for your refinish.

Ha! When you said '72 Fastback my brain jumped to this:

But then the coffee kicked in, I recalculated and figured you meant this:

Apologies for briefly associating you with the former.

“ I believe the color is VW Fahrenheit Orange ('07 GTI/GLI)” the Germans use the metric system including Celsius for temperature. So we’re they being cheeky at the Yankees?

They've been known to be cheeky before (in Milwaukee during HD's 100 year anniversary party):
