THANK YOU for the pics! Very helpful. I don't see amy reason why you can't successfully repair that. Give that it looks to have come from weight stress (so close to the forward strut bracket) I'm curious if you carry much on the top, like a cargo box, etc. _________________ 99 EVC

So far the repair is gonna well. The 3M product I mentioned is a little
Difficult to work with becoase it drys in 50 seconds so it made it hard to look pretty. However I still have the top repair to do so that will help a lot. I'll update with pictures soon |

Side note the crack may have came from an impact. I do not have a roof rack and don't put stuff on my roof. |

CW, good photos, great idea.
i take it there is no way to completely open up the sandwich roof then.
Was the foam insulation glued to the top layer as well or did it come right off easily.?
Is that the flat bar that you used for reinforcement.? did you glued it or fasten it down?
Curious to see how you will finish the inside to hide the cut out.
Good luck, keep us posted.
My 96 roof split right across , don't know if i'll be able to do the same .
looking at all options. |

I tired for over an hour to work around the edges it was just way to glued on to do that. I was worried I would just end up making the situation worse
Was the foam insulation glued to the top layer as well or did it come right off easily.
It was glued to both sides but due to Water coming in around the crack it came up pretty well. Not in one piece but I cut it into three and was able to re glue it very easily
Is that the flat bar that you used for reinforcement.? did you glued it or fasten it down
The Black bar running parallel with the top is the metal frame inside the top. The only reinforcing i did was with the 3M Semi Rigid plastic repair and Mesh tape.
The exterior was not attached per say to the frame I was able to work the repair material under the frame. The lift strut mounting plate is visible in the photo so pressure is not directly on the outer shell so I feel pretty good about the repair
Curious to see how you will finish the inside to hide the cut out
I final added some pics but due to time constraint I only did one coat of SEM Color coat paint (color Presidio) but am planning to add another this spring. If it doesn't look good (which it currently does i pretty happy) Ill add a thin headliner fabric to the entire inner top.
side note GoWesty sells SEM paint but their application recommendation of Classic coat is not correct per the manufacture. Color Coat and Presidio matches my 1995 super close.
Send Pics of your top I am curious. I will keep you updated on my repair and let you know if it returns. As you know you can order a new top from Winny they make them to order for the tune of 4500+

Awesome job, really impressed and inspired to take mine on this summer.
I keep my 96 EVC in the Southern Arizona for now. I fly down, enjoy a few weeks, then fly back up (Calgary).
I developed this crack on my last trip.
I was going to use some eternabond as a quick fix on my next trip until i get the van home in the summer . Then I'll see if i can attempt the same thing.
This is what mine looks like.
It is such a neat and clean crack i though it was a seam that had come apart.
Thanks

I dunno. That's a $10K top CCV, right? It's had the tranny and timing belt redone and looks really well cared for. I couldn't pay that, but it sounds about right. |

$40k-ish asking prices for 01-03 EVCs show up on the Samba pretty regularly. I don't know if anyone actually *sells* at that price point.
That top is a pretty significant upgrade I must say. I don't love the looks of it, but functionally seems great. _________________ 99 EVC

Hi CW - awesome work, thanks for the pics. I'm thinking of attempting the same repair myself but concerned that it might just crack again - has it held up ok so far? |

My luggage tray just flew off earlier this year while driving on the freeway. Finding a replacement luggage tray at this point in time is all but impossible.
I started researched for a replacement top and I think I have found an outfit in the SF bay area that can fit a LWB Reimo top in place of the Winnebago top.
I have just begun this process and it will take months before the part is procured and fitted. I will report back once it's in progress.
In the meantime, once the swap is complete in few months time, if anyone is interested in a Winnebago top in good condition off a 2001 EVC that was garaged most of it's life feel free to contact me. |

I am looking for someone in the Southeast to replace the canvas on my 2001 Eurovan. The canvas is available but I can't install it. Does anyone know of a shop preferably in NC, SC, VA or TN that does this?
Thanks,
Bob |

I will be switching to a Reimo top on my EVC due to cracks and a general dislike of the design of the Winnebago top. Cole at CaveVan is going to be doing the work. Reimo's schedule seems to operate on a geological time scale, but it looks like we finally have some sort of production date.
I'll probably try to sell the luggage tray once it comes off.
I'm excited to see how it turns out! |

Jonathan, what is the time frame you have been given from Cole? When will he be able to do the work for you? I also just sent you a PM.
I think the LWB Remo pop top replacement is the most elegant and at this point also one of the most cost effective solution based on the quote I was given. The outfit I am working with is a little slow in responding probably due to their current work load..... |

Orbeamike:
The issue has been getting Reimo to manufacture the top. Cole has been great and I am confident that once he gets the top he will get the job done in a reasonable time frame. You should contact him directly if you're interested.
I think that if you are one of the first to do a particular bit of custom work on your vehicle, you can expect that the job will probably take longer and be more expensive than you originally thought. The important thing is to find someone to do the work who will be reasonable and responsive to your concerns.
I think that it is going to be a really good solution to the EVC top problem and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. |

Does Reimo manufacture these on demand? i.e. no stock on hand? |

I'm not privy to their internal operations but from the outside it would seem to be the case. |
