1979 Federal is the same as the other SVDAs.

1979CA is a little different as it is a DVDA and the retard side of the distributor only has vacuum at idle.

Incidentally, I've been looking at vacuum lines recently, and I modified the original vacuum hose routing diagram with DVDA distributor for my '79 Federal bus, which has a SVDA distributor. It now shows both configurations and I thought I'd share it here.

While at it, I corrected the connections to the filter box and added the small connector hoses and T-pieces for clarity:

As I said, this is based on a '79 FI Federal, but it might apply to more model years.

Hey All,

I am not a mechanic and pretty confused - I am trying to hook up the vacuum and vapour lines for my van and there are so many different diagrams that i don't know which ones to use. I have a 1978 van - it is fuel injected and has an automatic transmission. I don't understand what things like DVDA, SVDA or Federal means - can someone point me in the right direction as to what diagram to follow? Thanks!

Andy

Quick question. I know this is an old thread and there is a ton of information here that is a great help. I had to redo the entire vacuum system on my '78 bus and the vapor line hoses as well. On the fuel vapor hose chart, where it comes off of the T with the letter W connection to V then to Y' (not Y), I cannot figure out where that fuel vapor hose is supposed to go? I have looked everywhere and cannot figure it out. I have a cap on it but I would like for it to be exactly like it's supposed to be as my bus is having a hard time idling and if everything is correct then it helps to narrow down the issue which I do believe is in the AFM.

Welcome!

Tank fumes come from both sides (Y' and X), then through that Tee (W) to Y which leads to the charcoal canister beside the RH tail light, if yours are capped off the tank can't vent and may be part of your problem.

Actually, I am connected to the canister correctly and all connections are made correctly except the Y' coming off of the W tee. I don't know where the Y' connects to from there (what point on the engine, etc.?) so the Y' is what is capped.

Y' should lead across the roof of the compartment to the left side metal vent pipe coming from the air scoop area.
