Anyone ever have a issue with this? Im trying to do some touchup work on my motorcycle. Ive been using an airbrush with paint matched to the panel. It seems like the paint comes out a different color once its cleared over. Once you color sand its a completely different color as well. Im getting a little frustrated with this. Anyone have some ideas?

I've bought paint that was colour matched and it wasn't even close once it was sprayed on. When I did my motorcycle tank I just resprayed the whole thing. It didn't work as a patch, but when completely redone it wasn't as noticeable.

Solid or metallic paint?

Yes pressure will effect color. Lower air pressure = darker in most cases.

Thinning ratio will effect color.

Primer color can also effect finish coat.

Optical scanning of color is the best way to match it. Tinting is possible if you have a lot of practice and an eye for it.

Clear coat tends to darken colors. You will probably have to tint the paint or simply paint the whole piece and blend into adjacent panels.

Mixed paint rarely matches. Just my experience over the years. Factory mix is usually a lot closer to reality.

For sure, almost everything can affect the color. Most of the time a color match isn't right on, that's why they blend it into the existing paint. The blend tricks the eye. On a motorcycle I would just paint the whole tin.
