tested my double relay today to try and solve dying issues
first tested voltage between terminals 10 and 17 on ECU and had 11.6 volts
-then tested 88a 11.6 V
88c 4.5 V
88z 11.6 V
Measured resistance between ECU 20 and 17, 67 Ohms
What does 88c go to? The way I am understanding this my relay is bad as it is not getting the same voltage as 88a and 88z.
1978 FI Electric Ignition
Replaced in the last month Starter-Alternator-Cold Start Valve and Wiring-Fuel Pump

Tell us about your dying issues. Are they on start up, or otherwise? There could be other things contributing to this. _________________ *****************

88c goes through the aux air regulator heater, so there should be a voltage drop:
you have read Amskeptics tutorial:

The voltage on 88a and 88z looks the same to me???
Make an electronic copy of this and take it down to Stables and have a 14 1/2 x 17 or larger print made.

you will note that 88C is tied to 88D. 88D is the fuel pump. fuel pump is going to be sluggish at 8.8 V
disconnect AAR and see what effect that has. _________________ 73 Beetle Baja, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 2220 ( 94 X 80 ), Weber Progressive, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats

Those are some pretty low numbers all around, how's your battery and charging system? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks for the replies,
WestFab: I have had the same gremlin for several years (see all my old post) and tested/replaced all questionable parts in response to help on samba. Long story short Bucking-loss of power but does not die-some times can drop the clutch and revive-when it does die has power and will restart in a few-problems comes and goes.
Mal ev: I will disconnect the AAR and see what happens
Busdaddy: New Altern and Starter last month, vehicle has been run very little lately with a lot of key in ignition testing so I will take the batt out and charge it just to get the numbers back up on volt testing.
As far as the double relay goes do you guys think that the volts at 88c are far enough of that it would be worth getting a new one if the "new" pump could be trying to pull of that?
Thanks again _________________ I will take "Victims of the All Mighty Sarlacc" for $800 Alex!

| You certainly want to be seeing way more voltage on 88c than the 4.5V shown in your first post in this thread. |

As a general rule, batteries have a life of 3 - 5 years before they begin to fail. Some can last longer but once 5 years passes I would look carefully at the battery. The low voltages seem to me to be an indication of a weak battery or bad connection. FWIW you can charge a worn out battery for days and it will show a full charge as to the viscosity of the acid however it won't give off the needed voltage or hold the charge. FI doesn't like low voltages. Check the battery leads too. They can get corrosion between the cable and the clamp internally. _________________
