Wheels are as above. Tires are 185/55/16 in front and 205/60/16 rear.
Lowering to commence. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Very nice. I've considered these for my '63 bug as well. What brand tires? Any chance at some better pics that show the tires? What is your impression of the quality of the wheels and the finish on them?
Thanks! |

Tires are Sumitomo. Right now the fronts are off as I have the front end in pieces all over the garage.
I have the admit the first set I got, 3 of the four were unacceptable. One got banged up by UPS and two had some flaws in the finish. Contacted Bugwheel and they issued me an RMA and shipping labels within hours. I had replacements back within a few days. These were in great condition and the finish was much better. Overall I'm quite pleased. I was concerned the tires would ride rough but actually quite nice. Once it's lowered, I'll post some more pics. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Thanks for the information. I look forward to seeing your finished project. I too had issues with another, to remain nameless, wheel company in my search for 16" wheels. They were so poor in finish and craftsmanship that I sent all 4 back for a refund. Good to hear Bugwheel was at least willing to address the issue and take care of you. |

This is with adjusters all the way up. Any lower and it is too close for comfort and too raked for me. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Very nice! I like the stance. Looks perfect to me. Low enough to get the handling and visual improvements you want from lowering, but without being so low as to negatively impact drivability. Thank you for sharing your project. |

I actually wouldn't say that any handling improvements were realized. To be honest, it probably handles a little worse than before. While the slightly raked look is cool, practically speaking, level or having the front a little higher than the back is actually better for handling. But its not a street racer, so who really cares? _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

How much of a gap is there between your front tire and the fender lip? |

Going in at an angle there is less than two fingers. I haven't noticed any rub yet. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

I love the outlaw look as,applied to a beetle. I've become semi obsessed with the idea. I intend to go for the same look on my '74 super. I have installed 944 brakes on my car (or there abouts), thus I'm using Porsche 15x5.5 steel wheels (formerly 944 space saver spares).
Good luck with your project
