Hi guys,
I have a 65 of unknown beginnings. When I bought it, the latch on the right vent was broken. I ordered two new ones from different sources, one being WW. I drilled mine broken one out no problem. I go to put the new one in and the rivet hole spacing is off about 1/2 hole. I compared to the other new one for other side and the two new ones have same spacing. I am wondering if a PO put in a different year vent if that is possible. Are there other frames that are that close in size with a slightly different hole spacing? |

It's more likely the new parts just don't quite match the original manufacture part. Chances are also good that the two new parts from different sources are both made by the same aftermarket company.
My solution to replace the broken driver's side vent window latch on my '60 was to drive the roll pin out and install the new latch handle on the original bracket/post. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Thanks for reply. I can do that, I just hate to JB weld the passenger one. I didn’t know if there was a slight variation with different models. I don’t mind buying another if it would lineup correctly.. |

Why would you use JB weld? _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

I removed the passenger side bracket because the post is broken. New one doesn’t line up for rivets. Spacing is wrong. I will probably get a used one in the Classifieds and hope that one has correct hole spacing. |

Ah, the post on the bracket is broken, not the latch handle... got it.
Grabbing another orignal is one option, the other would be to get one hole to line up on the new bracket and drill the second hole enough that you could get the other rivet in. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

VW used more then one manufacturer of vent latches in those years. And the rivet spacing was different. I`ve had original cars with the two different latches on them from the factory. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |
