This came up when I was searching 3M Crystalline

Yeah I saw that too. However that's on a Tesla. Maybe sun was shining right at the front untinted windshields. It's hard to tell.
I've looked into all of 3M tints. The lowest the Crystalline goes is 20%. I'd like it to be like 5%, but I think I'll be happy with the 20%. _________________ "Jo Ann" - '83.5 Westfalia EJ22e w/Peloquin |

Still have the lenses? Haha I would take them if so! _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

+1 for the professional job. I did 5% except on the front two thats 15%. yes its illegal....but my truck and car have it and Ive not gotten pulled over yet.
Ive learned with other vehicles there are things Im just not willing to agitate myself with. This seems to be something that could take me WAY too long and look like crap. I guess the real question is how much is your time worth? _________________ --Hardwork Pays Off--

I called up a shop that install Crystalline and I asked about tenting with glass removed. They said it usually doesn't turn out well? I'd obviously give it time to dry. Best Reflections near Asheville is the shop I called. They said an average SUV is like $350-400. I couldn't imagine what a Westy would be _________________ "Jo Ann" - '83.5 Westfalia EJ22e w/Peloquin |

| Been a while since I did the research on this topic but I thought crystalline or similar product could be used on the windshield. Cuts down heat and sunglare. |

Yes Mtnride1 said he just had his windshield done. I'd probably do the whole vehicle. Probably 20% all around - maybe lighter on windshield? Mtnride1 what % did you pick for your windshield?

Might be about the same for a Westy. I do not see a real disadvantage to having the tint done 'windows in' except for the left side rear by the closet.

You might want to check state law before deciding:

The good news is that Crystalline does not require a really dark tint to be very effective at blocking heat. |

I tinted my bugs windows 20 plus years ago, never went purple, and never bubbled. Don't know if i used anything special, but maybe i did, still looks like the day i put it on, though i did have all the glass out at the time, making it quiet a bit easier... _________________ Enjoy the ride....

Thanks for the post. The 100 or so comments suggest that this apparently simple test gets complicated pretty quickly. My guess is that Teslas already have high quality heat reflecting glass to maximize efficiency and miles per charge (spend a few dollars on better insulation to promote longer distance traveled per charge) so the non-tinted Tesla May already have been equally well equipped to block the heat. The OP may want to ask Tesla before spending $500 on Crystalline.
RV nerds did some testing themselves showing results for 3M Crystalline (also with plenty of comments)...

As for me, I’ll probably stick with hanging a towel or aluminum foil over the window. _________________ - Jim

Not sure the % but you can hardly tell it is there but sure feel a difference with heat and glare. My two front windows are 30% and the rest are limo dark. I am thinking of having the windows other than windshield redone with the crystalline tint for keeping heat out to. _________________ 87 westy 2wd (NED) |
