I bought this engine case in a parts lot.
There is no Engine Serial number like where they are typically stamped, but instead on the middle of the case itself. Engine number: U0136261.
When I look this up in the technical VIN/Chassis numbers, it says it's coming back to a '69 Type 3 (Built in Nov 1968)
However, I thought 68-up had pancake style engines, not the uprights?
Any help appreciated. I am interested in learning a lesson! Thanks!!

Right- it's a 1969 fuel injected Type 3 case. Type 3 was based on a Type 1, but had the oil fill hole at the bottom right rear of the case, no dipstick tube, and should have the 3 bosses drilled out and tapped at the rear of the case for the engine carrier bar.
What's the story on this case? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Those who can't? Subaru. |

Excellent info. Thank you!
Not sure of the story. It's the only Type 3 item I got in the lot. I will be putting it for sale, eventually. Thanks! |
