Is there anyone still making welded dropped spindles for an early Bay with drum brakes? They seem to have disappeared. The EMPI ones are disc only, and Wagenswest wants $700.00 for their new ones. I haven`t called Old Speed yet. But will if needed. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

So your real complaint is you can't afford the ones that are made. There might be some suggestions in the Lowering thread if you look there. _________________

I’m looking for some for a friends Bus. And it’s been a few years since I’ve owned my 68. And it looks like the prices have doubled. And the amounts of suppliers have really gotten smaller. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

probably so. Might check classifieds for awhile to see if someone going the other way is selling a pair. More people raising buses back to stock these days than lowering them. Someone said on here the other day every time a lowering kit is taken off a bus an angel gets their wings. _________________

Haha... or once one gets lowered, it finally gets the look it needs. Stock is fine for some people, but I just can’t do it. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

Oldspeed will be about the same price I imagine. I bought some 2” drop spindles 5 years ago and they were $665. I removed them after a few months and went back to stock. _________________ 1970 Westfalia Campmobile - SF Bay Area

Agreed. I saw on old speeds post of some bay spindles it was $450. But that was a 4 year old post.
Type-emotorsports looks to have some really interesting brake setups that uses modern car wheel bearings, rotors, and calipers. I see he has a 3.5" drop baywindow spindle built from scratch. It's only listed in the full beam kit on the website but I'd imagine it would be able to be bought without the beam too.

I would not want the cheapest option for these. WW seems great at what they do, and been around for some time. I got my spindles several years back and they are beefy. He used to take the stock ones back and discount or credit, not sure if thats still the case.
They gave my bus the look i wanted. This is only 2.5 spindles in front. Everything else stock.

As Nathan says - owner - operator. He has bought out a couple of places that had front spindle cores. He needs two sets of drum to make one raised or lowered. Another reason he asks for your early set and the premium price.
Early cores will be gone someday, then you might get lucky with full machined fabbed ones. How much will that cost?
You gotta pay to play. _________________

That would sound about right in Georgia! I lived in Savannah for a time and loved it. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

Yes, Old Speed makes them. I prefer them over Wagens West. While they are a 2” drop vs the 2.5” from Wagens West, they actually narrow the track width a hair, instead of widening it. _________________

Wagens West early bay dropped spindles are all new, no cores required (2.5” drop, .75” track width increase) _________________

Then that must be for raised ones only. My mistake. _________________
