I checked out that site. Looks like a 23 window costs roughly 20k. Is that before shipping and everything? Sounds like you would be in it 30k by the time you get one state side and fix the issues it will arrive with.

When you setup the PPI how did you do that...or did they recommend the party you used for the PPI?

Hey Nineteen,
The bus I selected was $29,000 plus $8k for shipping and customs costs. the brokerage set up the PPI ...but don't put too much weight into it as you can see in my situation...The PPI gave the bus an excellent review but I am putting around $10k in repairs. Cosmetically the bus is beautiful with new exterior and interior but as you know...you can't judge a book by its cover!! Laughing

Hey TK
The brokerage has all kinds of valued buses, the one I selected was $29,000 plus shipping and customs costs...around $7-8k...Looks like my repairs are going to run around $10k...so far Laughing

Newbie Danny Is this the bus? If not do you have pictures of the one you bought? it's good to hear these numbers so potential bus owners can make choices. I would not be a good candidate for a Brazilian bus based on the frustration of fitting a replacement part in any classic VW or other and not getting the desired results. Hopefully when you are done you will be happy with your bus. Looking forward to the updates with pictures.

I just bought a fully restored 1970 Bus from Brazil from Kombi Brazil, came out to $29,000 delivered to Houston. But I commissioned an extra $1000 in minor repairs by Brazilian mechanics before it arrives. (I hired an inspector, which was well worth it at $180).

It has not shipped out yet, but so far so good. Simon from Kombi Brazil has been great to work with.

thats wild, the brokerage sets up the PPI. Its like that goes completely against the point of a PPI in the first place, it has to be a third party. I guess just another way to grab a few bucks from an american on the way. As others have said I hope it all works out in the end and you end up with a nice clean good running bus but I would be so frustrated with the situation.

Has anyone ever had a good experience where the bus was as described and in good working condition?

Yikes... It got expensive 😣. Well, at this point you are neck deep financially into it so press forward and get it all fixed up and you will love it. It will probably still be cheaper than a restored german bus and it will be just as you wanted it. It will be fun to drive and will get attention everywhere you go.

My Brazil bus is much more of a budget bus and does not have a fancy restoration. I paid 12k for it. Put another $3k into new brakes and steering box. Swapped in engine I had on shelf and $1k in new dual kadrons carbs and a few engine upgrades. So it's a safe and reliable 😉 bus and one of my daily drivers for a bit over $16k. It doesn't turn heads like your show car restoration but it fits my budget and my style. For that price I could have bought a rusted out german bus without engine....

I'll be excited for you to start driving your bus 😁

Well... Here's the contrast between a $30k restored bus and a $12k project!
If my budget could afford a restored one, I would but blue bus fits my budget and personal style of vw.

I fell in love with VW's starting with a Bus is far worse shape than that. I paid $150 for a 1967 VW Bus with Fred Flintstone style floor pans (Year 1990).

I bought the $30k bus for my daughter, now she just has to learn to drive a stick...

from my understanding, for every 30 buses that are sold out of Brazil, 28-29 go to Europe and 1 goes to the US. They are definitely selling those buses that get posted in the Classifieds, just most going overseas.

The USD has been appreciating against the Brazilian Real, so what used to cost you $40k a few years ago, is closer to $30k now. But the Brazilian sellers are keeping most of the currency gain, they have an appreciating asset on their hands, and are now restoring them as fast as they can.

Mine has not shipped yet since I am getting some repairs done with low cost Brazilian labor, but I have full confidence in Simon at Kombi Brazil.

I was under the impression that the price was all-inclusive? (as per the header on their price list)
The bus I'm looking at right now is roughly 32k and I expected further costs to get it to Ohio, but what other costs did you accrue since import taxes are explicitly listed?
I've only factored shipping from the port in Texas and inspection fees.
I would ask them directly but I don't have a facebook and getting responses has been akin to pulling teeth.

Drive a stick.... And learn how to turn a 🔧. A triple A membership would is always appropriate gift along with vw. Driving 3 VW's as my daily drivers, AAA always loses 💰 on me!

not sure what you are looking at. I have some weather stripping tucked up out of way due to some welding repairs I had to do on the lower door. Other than that, its a stock brazil door as far as I know.

Any progress updates on bus? I am interested to hear about experience with CA DMV when you get to that point. I truly hope process is relatively painless and straightforward... But let's be honest, it's the CA DMV!!!

No updates yet, I am still waiting on my Bus to ship out to Houston. The USD has tanked relative to the Brazilian Real, so my 120,000 Real bus would now cost $1,000 more in the last two weeks.

It should ship out in the coming weeks, I’m getting some repairs done in the meantime by local mechanics.
