I like the gray hubcaps and the black stripe on the bumper.

Hello!
I am having issues with my '98 Vocho.
A few days ago, I noticed a "stall", or hesitation when leaving a stop light.
It does it at every stop light now.
The car starts perfectly, but it smells rich (gassy). There is also smoke when the car is initially started.
When the car first starts, the accelerator seems fine. However, after running for a brief time, the car will stall if you accelerate quickly.
I can slowly rev the car (very slowly) and get the RPM higher, and then begin to drive.
However, as I am driving, I am unable to really accelerate quickly.
I did check fuel pressure at the rail, and found 35 PSI. I've seen specification is 43 PSI. I don't know if this is an issue or not.
I pulled the codes on VCDS-Lite (new version of Vag Com) and found:
3 Faults Found:
00532 - Supply Voltage B+
07-00 - Signal too Low
Supply voltage out of range
Should be 10 to 16 V
00519
Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor G71 - no signal
-Defective sensor, tubing to manifold
00518
Throttle Valve Position Pot G88, Open circuit or short circuit
-Wiring or defective part
I have tested sensor G71 & G88 with ohm meter, and they look identical to spare units I have.
I did clear the codes and they have not come back yet.
I have also re-soldered the pads on ECU Relay (#30).
I have noticed this unit is warm (not hot) after the car has been running for several minutes.
http://www.1600i.de/1600i-elektronik/relais-steuergeraet/CheckingandrepairingtheECUrelay.htm
The gas tank is clean and fuel lines should be good.
I replaced the fuel pump in January of this year when I cleaned the gas tank.
I also installed new fuel filter at that time.
I have about 11,800 miles on my spark plugs.
Would anyone have any ideas? Could this be a defective #30 relay? Or timing be off?
Thanks for your help!!! |

to me it sounds vacuum related. have you double checked the green hose from the manifold to the pressure sensor inside the ECU? _________________ cars:

I have only checked that it is physically connected. I see there is a test that can be done by disconnecting it - and hopefully observing a change.
I will do that.
Also, I have read that fuel pressure regulator may have issues, but I can't seem to find much info on testing / troubleshooting.
Thanks for your help! |

IIRC there is a piece of vacuum hose also inside the ECU itself. as for the fuel pressure, was the pump you replaced an original spare or aftermarket? Chinese pumps may be hit and miss. A way to test the regulator would be to check if you have fuel coming back to the swirl pot. _________________ cars:

Thank you Garba!!!
It was a cracked hose inside ECU. You called it on vacuum!
It was odd. I pulled the green line off of ECU yesterday, and saw the motor performance suffer instantly.
However, since the issue persisted, I swapped ECU units and problem is gone.
After tearing down old ECU - I found a cracked hose. Hopefully this ECU is still good - just need to get a replacement piece of hose.
To answer your other question - the fuel pump is OEM VW. The aftermarket stuff tends to scare me.
Thank you again for your help!!!!

So now I'm looking for an scan tool for diagnostic and fault codes. Which is recommended?
I found this model but I don´t know if it works with mexi Digifant '95
Ancel VD500 and Ancel VD700

The windshield washer pump on my 1998 City Car has never worked. I was able to find a knock off pump on Amazon, an ACI 177113. The only problem is that it is slightly taller than the original. So it is cocked just a bit. I used the original grommet.
This photo shows that it is taller.
Installed. A bit cocked. But it doesn't leak so far. Putting in only a little fluid in case there is a leak. As time goes on if it doesn't leak I'll put in more.

How does that pump work? Maybe I should get one for my (US-spec) '73 Super Beetle, which has never had a working windshield washer system. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

Conceptually it is very simple. Just a positive and negative spade connector with a volume of fluid and a discharge to the washer hose. Here is a kit that will fit your Super Beetle.
