Glad to see my nickname has stuck on that manifold. Cool

That is probably about as nice an example of the correct manifold that you are going to find other than a NOS one.

If you don't go with the correct one, any 36hp manifold will work. The only real difference there is on the different versions of the 36 hp manifolds is the thickness of the walls of the heat risers. Probably not too many people are going to be able to tell the difference.

Perhaps you will join with me to "protest" the somewhat offensive name (obviously conceived of by a person of the opposite gender) and encourage an alternate nickname.

I was thinking of something like the scrotum manifold?

What say you Charmaine?

LOL.

Case and point. I am not spending $975 USD plus shipping on a manifold that is certain to fail me down the road. I plan on actually driving my car. While I am trying to get my car to be as period correct as possible... if the manifold weren't so untrustworthy, I'd be all over it. There's a reason there's none around, because they all failed, rusted out, and got thrown away. And this one will be garbage, too, in a few years. Looking for other options.

I am wondering if a 701B would be acceptable?

Well - the name doesn't bug me at all. It really does look like a uterus!
Now if it were called something crude - I may have issue. But nothing wrong with calling it by it's anatomical look alike by it's appropriate name IMO Razz

The standard 701b will work fine and would have been the factory replacement part for the uterus manifold. And they are cheap and plentiful to boot.

If it actually looked like a scrotum I would have called it that but it doesn't, it looks like a uterus so that is the name I came up with. I guess I don't see any reason to find a uterus offensive. Its really the most amazing organ in the human body. It can grow a human being. Sorry that you are offended but I stand by the nickname.

This is the info I was after. Thank you!

And yes. Nothing offensive about a uterus. Nothing offensive about something shaped like a uterus. The fact that the intake is useless and uterine in shape is unfortunate, lol.

If you do find a 701B/36hp, make sure the heat riser is clear. If it is open, even a little bit, you can burn the carbon out with an oxy/acet torch. If it is clogged completely, they are all but impossible to clear.

Any intake manifold (including the 701B) with an intact 18mm OD (thin wall) heat riser is neither cheap, nor plentiful.

For a daily driver, I would go with the 701E manifold, which is plentiful and (usually) cheap. Besides, you won't need to replace it in a couple of years.

Save the 701Bs for the late '54/early '55 museum pieces...

You are absolutely correct. I was thinking E instead of B.
