Some of you might of noticed but the Bosch condenser that fits the VJU4BR8 36hp distributor is getting hard to find. I just got off the phone with a major Bosch distributor and was told it's being discontinued and there is no replacement.

This fits the VE4 BRS 383, VJU4BR8 and VJR4BR8 distributors.

Bosch part number is 02170 or 1-237-330-055, VW part number is 111-905-295

You better get them before they are gone.

That is a drag! Is there a substitute we can use? My 36hp is running great and I planned on running it for quite a few more years! Thanks for the info. Looks like we will be grabbing up a bunch here soon.

I contacted a number of VW vendors and 3 of the Bosch wholesalers and no luck. I'm waiting for my contact in German to get back to me. If I find a source i'll be buying a bunch and make some available here.

You could always go to www.rockauto.com and look there. They have the Airtex equivalent. Not Bosch, but it'll work. For 1.29 it's not a bad deal!

It's only a capacitor. Any one would work. It just needs to mount properly.

Agreed. I wonder if you popped off that built-in bracket, would it work with a ZV/PAU4R5 style Bosch 02006 condensor (and maybe shorten the wire)

You are 100% correct.

But then many want to have a "correct" part since it is visible.

Of course, for a big, fuel injected motor, you would want to run the 'dual-inverted, super flux capacitor'! Laughing

Not Oval window stuff but since you are referring to VE4BRS383 here´s how the original condenser looks like. Old stock is the only correct option. ZKO29/62Z as in Sept 1950 parts catalogue.

Yes.. .383 condensers are larger and very hard to find.

Glenn, do you have the 1-237-330-xxx part number for ZKO29/62Z? I´ve got some NOS condensers of the correct design but most of them are with the "new" part number.

I've been running one from an early chevy on my '57 for about 4 years now. Needed one on a trip. Picked it up at a regular auto parts store.

Any condenser will work. It's just if you want Bosch or close to correct.

Just an update: They are gone. Bosch has none available and most vendors have none either. It looks like you'll have to settle on the aftermarket for them now.

This is available from Rock Auto for $1.26
AIRTEX Part # 5H1075

Somtimes this can be a good thing it may motivate somone to come up with a decent functioning and appearing alternative.
