I recently bought a 72 standard bug, yellow, just like the one I learned to drive on when I was a teen. It's so good to have a bug again, the sound, the gassy smell Smile
Hope to get to know you all and pick your brains. Luckily I have a mechanic here in town cause I'm a toolless chick living in an apt. ( no garage!)

Toolless chick? nah, no sweat.

I've picked the collective brains here, too, and it's always a big help. Don't forget the classifieds, tech section, phots, etc.

Hi, thank you! Actually I am getting the fuel line from the gas tank replaced right now, there was a small leak. I do love that old bug smell though Wink

Welcome. There are a bunch of fuel lines in the trunk that carry away fumes, so leaks aren't visible but are smellable. You should use German braided fuel lines which are cheap and available. The rubber lines are not metric. You should probably just read the sticky about fires.

Changing fuel lines in the trunk is really quite easy to do yourself. You only need a screwdriver, a knife, a manual and this forum. There is a section behind the rear left wheel thats harder.

But if you are totally uncomfortable with this look for a boyfriend with grease under his nails. I mean who wants a guy with pasty soft hands anyway. Right!
