Coad beat me to it but search eBay for comparables. They are pretty common, even though I have seen people at VW Shows not selling them for hundreds of $.

Are those standard size or longer, like early California plates? The slots in the photos are throwing me.


And does anyone have a clue about the letter codes? I assume they key to a base in Germany? Maybe a unit? They seem unnecessarily complicated if they don't.

I have a 1961 U.S. Forces in Germany plate that I found for $12 at a local antique store. It looks good on the front of my '61 Ghia. I get a lot of comments on it--most of them wondering if I bought the car new while in
the Service. Embarassed (no--I'm not that old. I was only a Junior in high school at the time.)
