Believe it or not, I'm in Hackensack, New Jersey all the time and they still pump your gas at all gas stations. Some kind of state requirement or something?

Yeah, I think it is a state requirement there.... but I wouldn't let an "attendant" touch one of my vintage VWs...

I believe that is the FDR Drive on the East Side, not the Henry Hudson Parkway (upper West Side), since I see what appears to be either the Williamsburg Bridge or the 59th Street (Queensboro) Bridge peeking out from behind the Department of Sanitation building. It's not often I get to display an example of my collection of useless trivial knowledge. Very Happy

Not just a gas station attendant, but a UNIFORMED gas station attendant!

Too bad we can't see how much the gas costs!

As Markm said , They have attendents in Oregon, But I am never to comfortable having those guys fill my car. I always lift the hood remove the cap and stay there till they are finished.

Ah, that brings back some memories of my first Englishtown show.

See, I didn't know about that law. And the "attendant" didn't speak English. That didn't end well.

And all they're good for is spilling gas around your filler. A locking gas cap slows them down until you get out of the car.

Even though NJ requires that an attendant pump your gas, none of them have ever refused to let me pump my own gas into my Beetle. I think many of them are just too surprised when they see me opening the hood to object.

Japan has uniformed addendents also. They run out when you pull in and marshall you into the spot. They wash your windows and check the fluids. I've seen locals go inside and smoke a cigarette while they wait for the full service. They also run your car through the carwash if you want. One time I was in getting gas and I asked them to wash it also. While I was inside I can see the guy trying to figure out the roller pedal. He even called his buddy over. Finally they came in to get me to drive it to the car wash. I laughed about that all the way home.
