If anyone has a photo of the rear shelf I'd love to see what they look like installed. Where exactly do the brackets mount that come with these shelf kits? And does the shelf rest one end on the inner fender walls or that hump right below the window? I'm just trying to figure out my stereo before I order a shelf, or make one...
Thanks... in advance.
Pics would be superb. |

Hey I like that shelf! I saw that somewhere online, they were calling it the "new style" rear shelf... not sure. You use those 2 brackets and the rest of it rests on the frame somewhere?
I was going to put speakers in the lower kicker panels below the seat/ floor board area. Plenty of room on the driver side but the passenger side speaker would either have to be really short in depth or it's going to hit the battery. |

A guy I met at work moved his battery behind the back set under the shelf, and ran a rear speaker shelf to hide it, that way he can put'em under the seats too. |

Thats a really good idea.
If I did find speakers that fit would and it was almost against the battery would that cause problems, as far as the magnet in the speaker, and whatever else... |

| Oh yeah I saw that thread earlier. There are some cool setups. Whats the name of that panel close to the window, looks like it rests on top the the rear speaker tray. I haven't seen those for sale anywhere. I wish it didn't take 3-4 weeks for jbugs.com to get one to my door. If I can find a template it wouldn't be a tough project - or just make a template as well. |

Are you planning on running a subwoofer? If so, building a custom panel might be the answer. You can use the sub box to help hold the panel up.

They really aren't that hard to make. Make a cardboard template and trace to wood.

I like how an installation looks on this location. That being said, I would think an installation behind the back seat would sound better. Installing them on a rear panel would allow you to use any size speaker you wish.
And lastly, i'm not sure if moving the battery to behind the back seat is the best idea. Now your drilling new holes in the car that aren't necessary, rerouting and lengthening wires, and possibly making a new area that might eventually rust through. Keep in mind that if your battery is dead, you're going to have to climb in to get the jumpers to the battery and you might have a problem reaching with some jumper cables.
Just my two cents. |

Yeah my car isn't really stock but I'd rather not cut or drill stuff either. I'll probably put some smaller speakers in the lower rear seat kicker panels, and some 6x9's in the back under a rear shelf.
As far as the brackets they sell for the rear shelf, how do those mount? I'm just not sure what to rest a shelf on. |

A couple more of my cents for ya . . .
Stick with the idea of the 6x9's in the rear shelf but instead of mounting a pair in the rear kicks, install a pair in the front kicks. This will surround you with music and sound ALOT better. |

| Yeah I thought about that, less wires to run too. I don't want it to feel cramped, most from kicks come black and I would need to find matching carpet. all in all it would sound alot better, good idea. |

The rear shelf mounts with two to four L brackets.

| Is that area carpeted now? I peeled the existing carpet off of mine, installed the kicks, then re-installed the carpet. PERFECT area for front speakers. |

Yeah...... I'm trying to figure out where the brackets go. Maybe my interior is covering the holes... Thats what I need to know though. |

You will have to make holes. This was not original equipment so no provisions for the mounting brackets. Simply mount the bracket to the shelf, put in place where you want it, drill new holes in car metal and screw down. _________________ 2013-2014 Vice President of SOVW www.sovw.org

Cool, sounds pretty easy. I'll take a stab at it this week.
Thanks. |

| Would some small 3.5" speakers paired with the 6x9's in the rear shelf work better than putting them in the lower seat kickers? |

| Electronictofu, that's overkill. A pair of 6x9s back there would be plenty. Speakers in those kick panels under the back seat won't be heard either. Kick panels in the front are great locations for speakers if you don't mind seeing them. These are beetles here, so 4 speakers is plenty to fill up the space. |

If it is of any help, here are details of what the previous owner did to install my rear speaker shelf.
I am not sure why the speakers are not centered in the holes. ~shrug~ It still sounds fairly nice. |
