Hi, I was haveing alot of problems with my 30 pict on my 1600 sp dying under load or when you accelerate (yes accel. pump working good). So for trouble shooting purposes I used this old 28pci but it is working really nice and tight. The nicest carb I have ever had on my bus. I am wondering if I will run to lean with this carb? (it came straight off a running 36horse so im sure it is jetted for such).

this is for a split bus for reference.

thanks

Kris

I believe you will be running too lean. Lean equals death.

you would want to take the jet out of the 30pict and put it in the 28pict carb. which should be a larger jet. I know alot bus guys do this .

Ok so the 28pci has a 117.5 main jet. The other 2 options I have are a 125 main or a 120. I am going for fuel economy but dont want to burn my exhaust valves out soooo... could I get away with 120? or should I stick with 125?

thanks

Kris

i'd go with the 125. try the air corrector out of the 30pict too. it should be smaller than the 28pci.

ya I test ran it with just a 125 main jet change and it is running to hot grabbed the dipstick and ouch!! to hot.

It looks like the air correction jet is different for the 28pci.

SO heres what I have to work with:

a german 30 pict 1 that I origionally had on the bus but it is haveing to many problems in the high end sputtering and falling on its face (lean condition right?)

a 30 pic brosol

a 28 pict

and a 28pci

This is on a 1600 sp with a 009 dist (read I should run 125 main with 009)

I also have a vacuum advance dist (from a 76-79 bay window 205 p)that I ran on a 1200 with the german 30 pict that worked well with good mileage, would this dist be recommended for the 1600? or do you have do have the fancy svda?

I am looking for fuel economy so what would be the best combo out of what I have?

the jets that I have:

mains 120, 122.5 and 125 (pretty sure I gotta stick with 125)

air correction 125z and a 130 y

idle jets- 50 and 55

thanks for input

Kris

So I tried an experiment with the 28 pict 125 main jet and 125z air correction to start

same bogging under acceleration problem, well I should say mid to higher range is the problem (thats why I am thinking it is a problem between the main and the air correction)

so then I tried the 130 air correction with the 125 main same problem ... then I tried the 130 with the 122.5 main just to to see and I got the same bucking sputtering problem...

switch it out to the 28pci with 125 main and it runs good, hell it even ran good with a 117.5 main in the 28pci it actually seems a bit rich with the 125 in the pci

**disclaimer** i am no expert on 1600sp or the 28 or 30 you have. i've been through and through 34's though.

the carbs all work the same so pick the carb that works the best and use that one.

i would think that a 1600sp would be jetted something like this: 125main 100air 55idle.

someone who knows more about these carbs/engine combo could correct me.

it's really trial & error as all engines are different.
my best advice is to work with one jet at a time.
good luck.
