Has anybody used Eastwood Company's new internal frame coating on the inside of their chassis tunnel? I just ordered two cans of it today to coat the inside of mine. Strangely enough I was just wondering what I could do about the rust in there when I got an email from Eastwood touting their new product. If anybody's interested, I'll report back the results when I try it out.

First...thats an excellent picture!
second, with as little crusty rust as you have in there you could use phosphoric acid and convert all of that to iron phospahte...and being out of the weather....it would never rust again.
However....most rust "sealers".....use phosphoric acid as the basis for killing the rust while sealing. That sealer may not have as much to grip to if you used a phosphoric acid primer like Ospho.

If you used phosphoric acid...you would likely not need that sealer. Ray

first off, thanks Ray! I try very hard to take clear, in focus, useful pictures! Second, I only ordered it yesterday afternoon and Eastwood had some sort of computer glitch so it shipped out today, I'll have it tomorrow. I'm very excited to try it out. Eastwood's websites says their "formulation also incorporates zinc phosphate to further protect the metal from future corrosion" I had contemplated just leaving it as is. She'll be a garage queen for as long as I own her so I felt the risk was low. The logistics of hauling my bare chassis out to the driveway and doing all that made me decide to try this product. I'll report back & post pics as soon as I get it sprayed.

Thanks for pointing that out Gary, I wasn't aware of the Samba discount at Eastwood. I see it's 15% for any order over $45 so I would have saved about $6 on my two cans. since Eastwood only allows one promotional code per transaction, the free shipping saved me about $10 this time, but the 15% could save a bit more on a larger order in the future so I'll certainly keep that in mind. What other suppliers offer Samba discounts?

I don't know, but I'm certain at least one in the banner ads has a discount if a buyer inquires.

Either way you got a good deal, and I hope you report your findings. The discount is also worthwhile information to file away for future reference.

PostPosted: Fri Jun 04, 2010 3:50 pm    Post subject: the after pics! Reply with quote

I tried out Eastwood's internal frame coating product today. My first impressions are I like it! Very Happy I decided to spray it on with the chassis upside down. Tomorrow after all is dry I'll re-coat with the chassis right side up to allow it to run into all the cracks & crevices. It was very easy to use, I even sprayed inside the "napoleon's hat" through the small holes & through the master cylinder holes. I plugged the clutch cable tube with an earplug prior to spraying (go ahead I try it yourself- it's not easy getting a foam earplug in that tube!) to keep the stuff out of it. I spayed it in through all of the various holes along the tunnel, from both directions, including the rear of the tunnel too. I also sprayed a scrap piece of sheet metal that had similar crusty rust on it to see how it adheres and holds up. I think I'll stick it outside for the summer. Enjoy the pics.

no, it doesn't foam up, i just applied it liberally! Laughing That is the only color, but it's intended to not be seen... I'll remove the stuff that ended up on the outside. When I talked to the Eastwood customer service agent who took my order she told me this stuff has been selling like crazy!

I bought two cans but I only used one (all of it though) so far. I will go back tomorrow and re-apply with the chassis right side up.

i have similar but marginally worse rust on the inside of my tunnel. im bringing it to be acid dipped tomorrow morning because i dont like the thought of painting over rust and having my project rotting away from the inside out. after i get it back from the acid dipper, im welding the pans in and getting the whole thing powder-coated. i know they wont be able to powder-coat the inside so im going to buy some POR-15 and dump in and swirl into the tunnel.
