spray painting my baja????

anyone ever spray paint a bug period or any car, i want to paint my baja but i dont want a $1200 job just to get scratched so if u have a pic or have done it can u let me know and what kinda spray paint should i use ??? thanks

you do know macco can do a car for abuot 120 dollars .... i had a car done..'not vw' before i sold it i've seen it around town and it still looks ok 4 years later. i mean if you forked out 120 every 3 years it'd be a ton better than spray paint..besides it would look better too. macco buys in bulk and mask's everything off. with a 120 dollar job im sure very little prep work is done in the shop but you could do the prep..take everything off and mask it
and i'd bet they'd be more than happy to slap some cheap paint on there that would do tons better than spray paint.

i thought of that but my fenders and hood are gonna need a paint that can flex and i dont know if macco does that if they do ill go to macco if they dont whats a good spray paint to use?

All maco would have to add to the paint on the hood and fenders would be a flexoactife (sp) flex stuff for plastic bumpers additive.

Actually, I have seen a decent MAACO paint job. I was checking out the color of a car when the owner walked up. I asked where it had been painted and she said that MAACO shot it six years ago, that the car had never been parked indoors, and that it wasn't one of thier "top of the line" (as she put it) paint jobs. I gotta say, it was holding up damn well. I've also been told that there are some MAACO shops that produce the same shitty quality as Earl Schieb.

if you do all of the prep work yourself and have somone like macco spray it. you could have a decent paintjob for a baja, at least one you wouldn't cringe at the first scratch

From what I've heard, Maaco paint jobs that look like shit are done on cars that were brought there in terrible condition and the owner wanted miracles performed for under $200. I have also heard that if you bring them a car that's already prepped (properly) it will leave there looking pretty good.

For a newbie, what would the minumum/mid/best way to prep a car for a decent paint job at a MAACO type place? Not looking for show quality, but I am thinking about getting a two tone job. (Car is solid beige right now, I want white sides.)

actually its not hard to prep ur on vehicle i worked for a dealership and when we would prep a car we took off all badges and sanded it down but DONT use ur finger tips use the palm of ur hand finger tips will leave a mark, really thats all u want to do sand it and wash it, DONT use dish soap cause the new paint wont stick to it,but ya take off all ur lights everything u can take off of the outside, maybe give it a wet sand too

Yeap, take off the bumpers, trim, headlights, tailights, antennas.....and anything else that you can. If you want to get extremely anal, take out the windows too.

Otherwise, all Maaco/Earl Schieb will do is tape everything off = not as good of a job.

Scuffing surface, and other prep stuff....

The Paint.. Shitty acrylic enamel... with fish eye eliminator.. wich mean that they dont properly clean the surface... Also, no that that paint job has fish eye eleminato.. your car WillALLWAYS have silicon in it.. that is what fish Eyeelimnato is, silicon. So if you ever do have it done right..... fish eyes every where......

Ok.. but it is a baja.. AndIs whatI would do....MAYCO... Just telling you guys how a mayco place works....
