After reading thread after thread asking, "What is all the engine tin?" I've decided to post up pictures of all the late model engine tin. If there are any questions in regards as to where it should be installed or what it is, feel free to send me a PM or let one of the fellow Samba members chime in.

i don't see the oil cooler tin aka "hoover bit".
also your photos look like they were taken at night with a flash. gloss black things, at night, with a flash = crappy photos. try natural sunlight in the middle of the day. it's tough to tell what piece is what in your pics. or an even better idea would be to take one pic of each piece, and then describe what that piece is and where it goes. that would be more helpful to people who are trying to identify what they might be missing... _________________

| Nice pics, thanks for posting them. I recently learned that for Beetles and Supers with fuel injection ('75 and newer), the cylinder head tins are different to fit the wider engine bays of those cars. I'll post a picture later on. |

I don't mean to be offensive or critical but it could be beneficial to see the tin as it relates to each other in terms of placement. If I had the parts here I would do it gladly. I did do a mediocre photoshop for now. Good thread, and thread title (search friendly).

Here's my sheetmetal. Ignore the Berg breather and i'm using Type 181 industrial tins since i'm running J tubes and not heater boxes.

Agreed, and no offense taken, I was going to hunt down pictures of their locations and post the pictures of where they go. _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

I thought this thread wouldn't be complete with our this exploded diagram I found in the gallery:
For those that may have missed it, Glenn's second pic includes the pulley tin (#33 in the diagram above)
No one has posted the square shaped deflectors (#5) that go BELOW the cylinder (above the pushrod tubes) so I will throw these in too:
Also, the small deflectors that mount in the center of the heads (not in the exploded diagram). This is the right hand one with the slot for the rod that connects the thermostat to the vanes in the fan shroud.
And I found a pic of the preheat pipe (stovepipe) from one angle:
EDIT: found a pic of an original "Hoover bit":
... and an aftermarket replacement:

I have seen a few "hoover bits" and they all seem to crack right in that same spot... The only one I have left is only hanging on by a thread.
Here's some pics I just took.
I would like some of those Type 181 tins like Glenn mentioned. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

and now you know why people have overheating problems and think they need to add auxiliary oil coolers and other nonsense.
it's a very important piece. the hoover bit makes the air go *through* the oil cooler, you know, so that it actually cools the oil. without the hoover bit, the air just escapes around it.

Nice Glenn...
Where can I get some of those, I'm going to be running J tubes.
It's either those or some exhaust wrap... or both! _________________ ✠Miklo✠
