Hello,
I have a stock baja bug right now. ( 7 piece body kit) I have new 7.00x15r yoko y742s tires http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Y...mpare1=yes

and 30x9.5 dunlop radial mud rovers for rear http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=D...mpare1=yes

I need to know what what wheels to get? Im looking at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volkswagen-Wheels-4x130-Ch...mp;vxp=mtr

looking at 5" or 6" fronts and 8" for rear for future bigger tire options. They come in alot of backspacing options which confused me. they wheel maker suggested using the standard backspaces they offer but Im not sure if he realized my tire choice and the body situation.. they offer the 8" in 3.75" backspace and the 6" 3.5" the 5" comes standard like 2.5" all wheels can get any backspace. I want my tires about level with my baja body kit. ( Uncut wide fenders) they cannot stick much past fender (illegal) Ive searched for days on all forums that mention anything about baja bugs but it seems for most people having tires hanging out past fenders is not an issue. or they dont mention backspace. Ive asked dozens of folks on here but nobody responds. so i made this post.. Please help!!!

might be a trial and error thing to get things to fit correctly. might have to take it to a tire/wheel shop that has a way to measure your back spaciing needs.

here are some examples of my setups.

700x15 on the front and rear. fronts are mount on stock wheels.

rears are mounted on chevy 7 inch wide wheels with adaptors. they do stick out on stock fenders.

these are goodyear mtrs 30x9.5s on the chevy rim with adaptor with fiberglass fenders. figure if you use a vw wheel without a adaptor then it will pull the wheel/tire more under the fender. i had 30x9.5 allterrain tires on chevy wheel/adaptors on the front but like the 700s better for ruddering in the mud.

this is my buggy with the 700s front and back. stock wheels up front with the chevy/adaptor setup in back.

Do you have pics of a front shot with your glass fendered bug? Looks like a close to stock backspaced 6" wheel up front for me? the 5" wheel they sell comes with like 2.5" backspacing. just worried that may stick out really far??? I dont mind a little sticking out but dont want the front wheels way wider looking than the back. Pics / backspacing of somebodys "stock" baja wheel / tire choice would be great. I saw a red baja bug on here with 7.00x15 tires with the same square lip uncut front fenders as mine. his lined up perfectly with the fenders. the pic had a kid standing in front of the car? Been searching for days for that pic but cannot find the guy. Any body know?? Thanks for you response!! you have awesome bugs

I just ran into a problem fitting the same yoko 7.00r15 tires on my stock LP beam, the rims I put them were Jackman 5 spoke (wide 5) 6x15 with a 4" (if i got the measurement right) backpace, they rub on the pan and just barley where the arms link to the beam(its right on the lock to lock but it will tear up the tires reaal bad if I ran it like that, I just ordered a pair of 5 spoke (wide 5) 6x15 rim with a 2" backspace, it says "minimum backspacing" in the description

http://www.pacificcustoms.com/wheels.html it might be a good idea, if your in the market anyway to buy minimum backspacing wheels? downsides?

I have a pair of crappy highway tread 215/75/15 on a pair of what i think are 6x15 with 2.5" backspace and the tires don't stick out to much at all and the y742s are an inch or 2 thinner at least.

I run 30x9.5r15 on the back, check my thread for photos they don't stick out at all. I don't know what size the rims on back are

I'm stuck on the wheel make I chose from eBay.. they make a 5" with 2.5"? Backspace standard.. 6" is 3 something. Either wheel can have any backspace but for $35 more. Should I just buy the 5" with 2.5" backspace or is the 6" wheel a better fit for the tire? thanks !! After wheels I can start to play with it. Then start my own build thread!!!

mine rub the pan too during when you turn the wheels all the way either way. i made skid plates for where the tires hit the pan so the tread doesn't catch on the pan. they just rub on the skid plates but the wheel/tire doesn't lock up.

here is the chevy rims/adaptor on the front. it sticks out just a little and never rubbed the pan. just have to figure the backspacing on a steel 4 3/4 chevy and then a 3/8 to 1/2 for the adaptor and then you will have a ball park back spacing number.
