|
|
| I'm finally getting around to installing a 2.0. While I was inspecting the clutch placement, I noticed that it was just a tad off center. My clutch alignment tool went in fine, but I wasn't completely happy. When I took off the pressure plate, the clutch disk wouldn't budge. It was a brand new disk that I installed about 2 months ago. When I say wouldn't budge, I definitely mean it. I didn't want to pry it out just yet, so the pressure plate was just bolted back up for now. What are you guys' opinions on this matter? According to my clutch tool, the alignment SHOULD be fine. Is my OCD getting the better of me? Will I be able to get that unstuck once it's running in the van? |

are you saying that you removed the pressure plate but the disk remained glued to the flywheel, or the pressure plate? _________________

Disk is glued to the flywheel? Is that what the problem is? _________________

To make your life easier. Remove the pressure plate and free up the disc now and center it.
It will make things go smoother when you put the engine in.
Good Luck

the disc might have been new 2 mths ago but what has transpired since , post some pics of the flywheel surface and the PP surface ,what has happened to cause it to stick so well ,either way pics are necessary _________________ I like hammers. Lots of hammers. Hammers and me go way back.

Maybe surface rust, causing it to stick?

X-2 Tcash since the engine has been sitting since December and We all know how moisture can be in the winter time.
TO the OP there are rivets that hold the clutch lining to the steel assembly
just like riveted brake shoes. moisture is attracted to the rivets and can't
escape.
Pull the disc and clean off the surface if possible or replace it if it leaves material stuck. Also, what type of pilot shaft are you using to align the disc? _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |

The pilot shaft aligns the splines of the disc with the pilot bearing. You should be able to look through the splines and see that they are concentric around the bore of the bearing.
Your disc should pop loose pretty easy. Take a 2x4 and lay it against the metal hub of the disc and whack the board with a hammer and the disc should pop free. |

| Im just tying up some old posts so if other people search, they'll see the problem washed closed out with the advise given...I was able to break the clutch loose with a good whack on the hub. The problem was a bit of surface rust developing. Cleaned the flywheel, installed clutch, engine in, clutch feels soooo good. |

Thank you very much for following up. You would not think a new clutch disk would rust to the flywheel.
We do see this once in awhile, on buses that have been stored for a period of time.
Thanks

keep the male dog away from the engine when you leave the garage. Just saying _________________
