Is this normal radial play for brand new parts?
It is total play for both sides.
Lobro T-2 CV's, no play in them.
The slop appears to be in the EMPI axle splines.

Remove CV bolts, slide boot/flange on axle towards center. Reinstall CV bolts and look where play is while rotating back and forth.
Tell us what you find.

Play is in the splines on the side I didn't install.
No play in the who knows how many miles original 71 T1 assemblies.
I forsee bad things happening with 300+ HP.
Just ordered some early 944 OEM axles.
(Car had steel control arms and my understanding is they should fit)
Will see how the play is with them.

I have installed many EMPI axles with both stock Lobro and EMPI CVs and never seen or had any excess play in spline area of axle or CV.

check the torque on the axle nut. It may have been loose and worn both the flange/drum and axle.

Torque on axle stubs is good.
I can see it is the splines in the other assembled cv's / axle that I didn't install.
