Is this normal radial play for brand new parts?
It is total play for both sides.
Lobro T-2 CV's, no play in them.
The slop appears to be in the EMPI axle splines.

Remove CV bolts, slide boot/flange on axle towards center. Reinstall CV bolts and look where play is while rotating back and forth.
Tell us what you find. _________________ Joseph

Play is in the splines on the side I didn't install.
No play in the who knows how many miles original 71 T1 assemblies.
I forsee bad things happening with 300+ HP.
Just ordered some early 944 OEM axles.
(Car had steel control arms and my understanding is they should fit)
Will see how the play is with them. _________________ Danth’s or Parker’s Law:

I have installed many EMPI axles with both stock Lobro and EMPI CVs and never seen or had any excess play in spline area of axle or CV. _________________ Joseph

check the torque on the axle nut. It may have been loose and worn both the flange/drum and axle. _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |

Torque on axle stubs is good.
I can see it is the splines in the other assembled cv's / axle that I didn't install. _________________ Danth’s or Parker’s Law:
