Extra sealer when installing windshields?

My bus had a bad water leak from both windshields. Upon removing the glass, I found lots of rust holes. I made a new lower channel for the windshields, welded it in and painted with epoxy primer and paint.

Despite my best efforts to be thorough, I know water leaks can be really tough to nail down. Is there anything worth smearing in the windshield channel before I put the new seals and glass in? Just thinking how instructions rarely say to put copper silicone on exhaust gaskets but things always go a lot smoother when you do. I have all sorts of silicone, urethane, and butyl tape.
