How was the event turnout? Good weather, hopefully? I attended the MVVC meet for several years from '96 (the inaugural Gene Berg Memorial Cruise) thru '06 when it was held in mid-May at VW's HQ in Auburn Hills, then at Ypsilanti. I drove out from southern New York, often caravanned with the Der Kaefer Fahrer club. I never visited Frankenmuth; seems like a fun town for a German car event! |

Hey Rome, I didn't know that you were so knowledgeable about the MVVC and the annual Bavarian festival held in Frankenmuth. It was a great event this year. The forecast all week long was rain, but then it changed. It turned out to be a beautiful weather weekend, with lots of sunshine. I've attached photos, some of which I didn't take. I just copied them from other members of the MVVC and the posts I found on Facebook.

Thanks for the event photos. Did your '71 run well there and back?
I never made it to Frankenmuth, only to most of the MVVC meets between 1996 and 2006 which were first at VW of America's HQ in Auburn Hills, then relocated to Ypsilanti's Riverside Park. Drove either in my '77 Std. Beetle, '64 Ghia Cabrio, '64 Ghia Coupe, or '70 Fastback. The Fastback and Ghia Cabrio suffered major engine damage on their respective trips... |

It's funny that you asked about my trip to Frankenmuth. The car ran great. Last year, I avoided the freeway and took 2 lane roads all the way there. It's about an hour and a half drive on the freeway (I-75) from Sterling Heights, and a bit longer taking the back roads. This year, I took the freeway, and my wife followed me in our car.
On the way home, I ran over a dead racoon going about 75 mph, and it ripped open my external fuel line underneath the car. The previous owner had re-routed my fuel line, and the dead animal showed it who's boss. On the side of I-75, I jacked the car up, temporarily fixed the fuel line, and drove home. Piece of cake! This all happened right after I posted something on here about my external fuel line being in a good spot. Weird. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle, 1776, dual Weber's, roller crank, modified large valve heads on match ported intakes, 9.2 to 1 compression, close ratio trans, lowered suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes, truss bar and other goodies.
