Hey Folks I took in this 1946 Beetle for full metal restoration.

It’s been a while since a have done a car this early and I’m really looking forward to it.

I dove rite in today getting it in a rotisserie to remove all the rust and damage to get it ready to go to get blasted and primed.

If all goes well I will be ready to haul it down to them in a few days.

Here are the pictures of the humble beginnings and some highlights of the areas that will need to be replaced.

Thanks for following along fellas…. I do put in a fair amount of time and attention to the shop. I will say part of my secret to success is I don’t take on to many projects… the results of that is a shop not cluttered that can easy be maintained.

I agree 100 percent that this Beetle has a wonderful amount of solid original metal to boast of. I feel blessed to a part of it’s journey to be revived.
At this time I don’t know a bunch about its history but I’m definitely going to dive into some details as I go. , I will happy to share the more I learn. One thing I do know and it’s something that always encourages me is, it has been In the same hands for almost three decades and is a loved and cherished member of the family Very Happy

Note how the dash VW is north of centre. A sign of an early car.

With all the bulk cut away yesterday, today I focused on removing all excess conjoining flanges left over from my bulk cuts . Now the body is ready for blast and prime with all the original remaining flanges clear and ready to accept the new sheet metal.

Are you replacing the entire front end with all new metal? I was very happy with Wolf's pre-52 front quarters, spare tire well, and apron. Great detail, fit and finish, and I found them to be much more stout than an oval-era NOS panels had to compare to.

I like the way you think Mr Splitman…. I absolutely love his panels. When he first came out with the complete quarts I was so excited. It so nice to able to be able make such a huge improvement on a build with just one panel. I will be using his quarters , front apron and the spare tire well to complete the front end portion of this reconstruction. The goal is to leave the rest of the front Original metal. I’m hopefully of what it will look like once it returns from blast.

Hey there. Thanks for asking.

So these are a “Grip-on” brand I got them off the Matco Tool truck but you can probably get them online. However what you see is highly modified by me to work specifically with the seal channel material. It has been proven to be very handy and I use on just about every job that comes in. I hope this helps.

Thanks for following along

Thank you for the info. I wasn’t sure if it was a tool made for repairing the C channel.
So did you modify them a lot from what they were originally?
