| I live in a rural area in north central Illinois. An internet supplier is attempting to lay fiber optic cable down our side of the street where our current internet supplier already has fiber optic cable located. This new company requires property owners' consent to lay that cable. I'm satisfied with our current supplier and don't really want any more trenching on my property. What's strange is that the current cables laid did not require our permission when they were put in. That might be because they were originally laid by AT&T when they owned all fiber optic runs. Our property line actually runs to the middle of the street and then there is a 10 foot easement which goes to the other side of the street. My argument is why not run the new cable down that other street side which would not require our permission? True, there are more homes on our side but that only requires that they bore under the pavement to gain access to our side. It seems like a lot less hassle for the internet company then having to get approval from many property owners as opposed to just a few. I've talked to some neighbors about this and they also seem to be hesitant to sign. The way I understand it, if one homeowner refuses to sign, they can't lay the cable. |

Having multiple options for fiber optic internet sounds great - especially if one decides to increase the price!
You could send an email to the company and ask why they need access to private property if a public easement already exist and also suggest running it on the opposite side of the street. _________________ "Jo Ann" - '83.5 Westfalia EJ22e w/Peloquin |

| We are locked-in as far as price from our current supplier unless we opt out. Their rate is quite reasonable. |
