ah, I wasn't sure for sure there... I thought you might have some car with magical powers! Cool

Now, the trains I operate at work, THEY idle at about 330RPM.... but those are also 16 cylinder engines.

375RPM at idle? Too freaking low if you ask me, you'd be better to shut if off. In the early 60's VW books talked about going to 550RPM but even that was too low. Especially in damp or cold weather, the engines don't like to stay running. Later VW went to a 800-950 RPM range, depending on make and model. I usually set my cars around 900-950.

Hmm.. Thanks. I have a weber carb in it right now, but will be putting my EMPI duals on in a few days, after some adjustments and timing, I will get it lower.

Bill Mays neighbor is also named Bob. Always refers to him whenever there's a VW technical question asked. Bentley was his last name I believe. Laughing

I find that 375 rpm at idle is the optimum for fuel economy. You never have to worry about wasting gas at stop signs. As for red line-- weren't
those the early HotWheel toys? Confused

I think VW factory spec was 900? not sure, that may have been for an auto stick. Mine is somewhere around 600...... sounds like a tractor. Cool

What is your RPM idle suppose to be? I just hooked a tach on my car, and I get about 1200 RPM on idle. Is that high, or normal? Seems high to me. Also whats redline? I got it det on redline for 4k.
