Sorry to revive such an ancient thread, but radiator placement doesn't seem to get much attention in recent history as a stand alone thread. Being that so much time has gone by, there has to be some sort of accumulated trial and error experience to be shared? The only other thread the search dragged up was a year older and contained a barrage of anti watercooled engine swap posts, and I'm sure those sentiments have changed in the last 11 years. Any experience with front mounted radiators and long coolant lines versus rear mounted radiators or the mid mounted above the transaxle jobs? I'm in the process of brainstorming placement issues for an EJ25 SOHC transplant. I'll start another thread when the time comes for that, but the revival of the radiator placement thread seemed like a necessary thing to start with. _________________ 1970 2180cc Baja Bug. Put the drill away dont do any drilling use the existing hole annd just run the tap all the way in and you should be good. you may need to trim just a hair off the bottom off the intake manifold to clear the sensor. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for the compliments. _________________ GOOTJR's Baja

GOOTJR- this may be a stupid question, but did you drill that hole all the way through the block wall, or was it just a dead hole? thanks, nevo |

Ahhhh, and you probably priced out the $300 factory unit and decided to go with the old school chevy truck alternator. That is what I am going to do if my factory alternator ever gives up on me.
I have the factory power steering pump too, if I ever get that fancy.

That would be it right there.
GOOTJR,
I noticed that you bucked for the alternator conversion. Is there any reason that you didn't stick with the factory setup? I think I remember you saying you bought a used motor as well, so I am guessing you had the option.

This sensor our talking about is a knock sensor and if you use a 10mm 1.5 thread tap it will go right in one of the existing holes without drilling. _________________ GOOTJR's Baja

SHMO,
I got my wiring harness and adapter kit from turnkey, and they told me that one of the sensors, the large round one with the single blue wire running to it, had to have a hole tapped into the block for it. Well i cannot find a place to do it, but i believe that they had done it below the intake manifold. Would it be at all possible for you to take a picture of where they had mounted it on your engine so i can get an idea of where to put it on mine. Thanks much, Nevo |

There is no function on these forums to combine threads.
It would be a nice feature though, since so many people start identical threads. |

Brad,
if moving the post is done so easily, why don't you just put them back where they belong?

if i could, i would. there's no way to move posts between threads. all i can do is split them up. _________________ OGST | CU05 | OGJHC

that graphic is an actual computer generated scenario. It isn't just a fancy picture. The guy who did is it Baja Wes. He was saying that the licensing for the program alone costs 50 G's. Kinda nice of him to do that for us, hey?

Matt,
I was already all over that Jeep radiator. It would be ideal for most setups like I am putting togther. However, with the way my cage work runs at the rear of the car, I was limited on width. The Jeep rad was simply too wide, hence the custom aluminum jobby I bought. Good advice you had though. Everyone else considering a rear mount radiator should take note of that.
