This is a great thread. Here’s my parcel tray after I recovered it…not perfect but I like it.

The ends of the front vertical piece are folded back too.

| My July 59 deluxe was 2 peices although the bottom peice was shredded up so I carefully removed what was left of it and used it as a template. I then used the front bottom portion of my og front bench seat material which was a perfect match and brushed contact cement on the tray and material. It's been on there for over 5 years now no shrinkage although the material used is 64 years old. |

I tried to replicate the original the best I could and used contact adhesive in a can with a brush. I think a spray would have been much easier though.
As you can see from the original one above it was glued clear across. Over the years the vinyl shrinks and usually pulls the sharp bottom corners up only staying stuck to the flat top surface. I traced an original onto paper then the paper onto the fresh vinyl. A few adjustments still had to be made to fit properly. It depends on the heat of your vinyl, tray, glue, etc.
I did the front (back of the parcel tray) first and did the bottom the next day. The whole process took me weeks which is ludicrous since they probably did it start to finish in three minutes at the factory…

I'm preparing to tackle this covering on a 67 package shelf.
I'm wondering what others have used for adhesive? It seems too big an area for using something out of a tube.
Also wondering if others have made a pattern first out of paper or something else?
On the flat shelf portion does the vinyl follow the contours of the ribs on the shelf or does it lay across the tops of each rib?
It appears the plan of attack should be to do the front edge first let everything dry, and then do the flat tray surface.
Sound right? |

Just as I was about to toss away my OG vinyl that was warped, I luckily started researching getting new vinyl only to find it’s not reproduced. Looks like I’ll be ordering a yard or so and try to re-do this…. Accounting for shrinkage obviously. We’ll see how it comes out!

Where did you end up ordering the vinyl from for this? |
I haven’t yet. But will ask Sewfine, who’s making everything else to send me a yard or so. It should be the same material the door cards/panels are made from. So they’ll obviously have it in stock. |

from the gallery this looks like a one piece liner here too. Zoom in on the stitching in the left of the tray

maybe its an early delux thing (one piece) though I can hardly imagine why. Unfortunately another thing I didn't ask Mr Mayer (original owner) about before he passed. _________________ 58Euro 23 343208 The Ultimate Zimblewinder Machine.

My 23 is 4/58 so I don't know what this means for early/late comparison. Definitely OG though. Its a Euro model though I can't imagine that makes any difference. What model is yours?
Cheers

it's a euro as well; sk699, so painted at vw
someone had removed the 2 pieces and stored them under the seat, so they are really nice; parcel tray still has the og glue they used
eric, that's wierd your blue 58 didn't have the covers, but then again it is a dove blue bus, so what color cover would they have used?
would a westfalia painted bus not have been delivered in primer? interesting _________________ WANTED:
