Depends on where you live and if you want to save the world or not. But then again, if you wanted to save the world, why are you driving a VW bug? Anyway, the heat risers are for the centermounted carbs, like the stock PICT 34's and such. They need the heat to run well. If you have dual carbs like Kads or ICT's, you don't need the extra heat, and can install block-off plates to close the holes.
The EGR system is another story. I have a 74 beetle, and it has the EGR system, but I don't have it hooked up to my VW. Mostly because it's pretty old and all the hoses are rotten. But to answer the question, no you don't NEED it, at least in my experience. |
