Just saw this on another forum and was about to post it too. Hate to admit it here, but I actually really like it. I'd hack in some different taillights though.

The dual taillights could almost work if it was executed better. Hmmm I might have to go rummaging through the leftovers from dad's 59...

Some think that if your beetle has a padded dash, it's an engine donor. Some think that if it has push button door handles, it's a boat anchor.
Do what you want. Ignore the elitists. Drive your VW. Enjoy life.

I don't think either the front nor the rear have been widened or narrowed. Super Beetles had a wider front track than standard Beetles, due to the MacPherson style front suspension. You see it more on this Beetle because it being so short, the front and rear axle is visually closer together, rather than being separated by the full length of the body on an unmodified Super.

From the 1973 US Beetle O Manual-

The more I look at it, the more I think it's wider in the front. Maybe a wide beam, and pinched a bit in the back? Definitely giving me Isetta vibes.

I drew a line parallel to the driveway apron, and even accounting for being parked a bit crooked it looks like the rear wheels are a little inboard.

And in this front shot you can barely see the rear fenders. I don't know why this is bothering me so much. Brick wall

I appreciate all the work that went into it! If it was done by a body shop the new guys probably learned a lot of valuable skills piecing that together.

I agree, I suspect the bobbed fenders create the illusion, the decklid, rear window, space on the sides of the engine and fender/tailight width all look normalish when viewed separately.

If it was narrowed, wouldn't the windshield, rear window & dashboard need to be modified as well? The deck lid looks to be a normal width too....but I could be wrong! Question Question
