Pretty certain they would be exactly the same. Same factory, same press tools etc. and modern mass production techniques would ensure a commonality of parts wherever possible.

A 'How To' on painting hubcap logos (thanks to whoever posted it):
Quote:
First, clean the cap completely as best you can but keep from getting any kind of wax or chemical residue on it. Using very fine steel wool and dish soap works really well for that part. You can simply spray paint the entire stamped area of the cap, not worrying about overspray as we will clean that up after it dries. Next, find a old cotton t shirt or rag of like material. Then get a small flat block, possibly wood, about the size of a dish sponge. You are going to wrap the t shirt material around it snuggly and dab that over the mouth of a container of acetone or laquer thinner. You want it perfectly flat on the bottom surface of the block. Also, it is important to NOT soak the shirt as you don't want it so wet that it runs down into the lower sections of the VW stamping. Basically, you just use the flat edge of the block to buff off the high spots of overspray and leave just the paint in the stamped impression. Make sense? It will likely take a couple of passes and there will likely be a residue from the dissolved paint but just let that dry and once dry it will easily polish off with chrome polish. That will also leave your caps waxed and shiny as can be. It sounds complicated I suppose but it's super easy and the results are worlds better than trying your luck of holding your hand steady and paint brushing in the logos

The original hub caps for my '54 are obviously different in terms of the VW stamping than later caps. As mentioned before the depth and shape of the stamping varies when you have caps side by side. For the restoration we chromed the caps and had the center section a matte finish like they came from the factory.

for a barndoor deluxe the center should be red. I am not sure if it is exactly sealingwax red. for the standard buses, it is the light brown color.

I had a few original paint red center caps earlier this year, but I gave them away since a friend of mine needed them for his barndoor deluxe, and I had no real need for them. he still needs one red center cap if anyone has one.

here is a pic that I took of a rare original paint barndoor hubcap.

The NOS set of early Type 2 hubcaps that was making the rounds at most of the northeast (US) swap meets during the late '80s and early '90s had logos painted Sealing Wax Red.
