| I am in need of a new rear backrest frame for a 1969 double cab that I am currently restoring. Can anyone tell me if and where I can buy a new one? It looks like it's the same frame as a split double cab backrest, but I want to make sure. |

Sorry to dig up this thread, but I did not see any info in here on it. I have a December of 59 doublecab I am doing a restoration on. I have the correct seat frames for it (both front and back are the same as it's early). I am looking at recovering with new upholstery seat covers from WW.
I know I need grey seat covers. However, I am confused as at what I need for the rear seat.
For the front: https://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=211881000GY
Do I need the same one for the rear as well since it is the same seat? WW has a DC seat cover listed, but the picture looks to be for a 64-67 flat bottom seat.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
The front and rear are the same for that year double cab. If you want the most authentic seat cover close to how they came new order your covers from here.

I had those in my 1960 double cab and they were perfect. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

Thanks Everett, very useful.
I'm curious as to why the back seats had that additional support brace along the back. They mount the same way as a front bench seat which doesn't need (or have) that support.
Cheers. Dave |
I wondered the same thing too a while back. I'm thinking since the seat mounts to a permanent part of the vehicle in the front of a bus, but a "floating" portable (backless) base in a DC, that the seat simply requires more stiffness to survive when I pick up my posse' on 23rd and Jackson. _________________

64-67 has a flat base all around.
I dig up these pics in the gallery of an original salt & pepper rear seat
Back rest (same as earlier seats):
Bottom, notice frame is totally flat instead of having the dip in front like earlier rear seats or 58-62 front seat bottoms:
Front of seat here is on the bottom in the pic - Also seen is the truck-only rear seat bar for mounting. _________________ How to Post Photos

Great thread but seems to be missing some details on 64-67 rear seat base (not the pedestal). Does anyone have a picture of the underside of one please? Is there anything else that does the job or is it just a case of finding an original or fabricating something - if I'm to fabricate something a picture would be great to see how it should be please.
Cheers, Dave |

My 10-61 had the original mat and stand which was the long one. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

Yes, I could try to look up the ad but I would need more information - location, etc. Seller's email address would be optimal. PM me if you have any details.
On the transition period, I haven't seen anything formal.
I think the "up thru 1961" reference was gotten from examining Trucks known to be original.
It may even have changed during 1961.
If anyone knows more, I would update the first post in this thread. _________________ How to Post Photos

Does anyone have anything more specific on the date range of the short-to-long end transition for the DC rear floor mat?
Oh about 2003, I bought a rear pedestal, seats, and possibly even the floor mat off TheSamba for my '62 DC...been so long I don't remember from whom or what all came with it (Can you even look that ad up anymore, Everett?). I just needed them and didn't sweat the details. The pedestal is an earlier version, with the "innie" mounting tabs, which I made simple plates to adapt to "outie." The floor mat is earlier version too, with the short ends - no markings that I recall, will have to check that out.
What I'm getting at is, where does it say that '61 is the cutoff for short ends? I assume from my research that it is incorrect for my '62, but why!?!? Any PR, Parts Catalog, or other reference to the switch to long ends? _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

Yes, there are many ways to skin the cat.

Do y'all ever do the home electrolysis to de-rust this kind of stuff?

I know these bolts are M8x25. It also looks like it has a round head. I've looked for carriage bolts like these, but the "shoulder" of every one I've tried has been too big to fit into the slot of the retainer. Are these the same bolts as the passenger bus seat clamps? |
Weird, I had ones from the local Ace hardware on my Truck until I found an original set. They worked great, only the head was larger than normal.
They are not the same as the rear seat bolts - those have a T-head:

This is $26 at Home Depot, Black rubber scraper mat.
Probably available in Canadian home stores.
Looks like it could be cut to fit, and would do the job.

Where are you guys getting your rear DC floor mats.
Wolfsburg West has them. Anyone else.
Shipping and the CAD $ is killing it. Not to mention duty. |
