Hi I have the Volvo 240 resevoir, but one of the grommets seems to have a slight leak. They are the correct 13mm grommets for the resevoir. And it is a new master cylinder. Is it possible that these grommets can wear out this quick or or can I somehow use some kind of silicone to stop the leak? thanks _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug

I can get my hands on these things if you are not in a hurry. Have you tried the local junkyards? I bet I can get one in five minutes in any junkyard.
Anywho, try these guys. They have at least 50 240's in stock.

I imagine theres a Volvo forum out there with tons of Volvo Geeks who are as into Volvo's as we are into VW's. Well maybe not that into them but finding a forum like that and would probably be a good source.
Figure there are people who own these changing out their MC and they come new with a reervior, so they gotta a spare. If they n=knew there was a demand then they might not throw them in the trash.
Besides another possibility is that repair shops would be a better source then wreckers.
I got mine off a guy on Ebay, he had a MC up for sale with the reservior on it. So I Emailed him and said "hey, would you be willing to sell the reservior off of that thing" He said sure $15 shipped.
So do some looking. |

I called around Arizona today to three different Volvo wreckers. They all said they didn't have a reservoir and one said he couldn't sell a used one anyway... My impression was they didn't want to take the time... Any other ideas where I can buy a used one? _________________ Jim (o\ l /o) |

FYI,
I was having a terrible time finding a 240 M/C reservoir at a junk yard. Out here in Eastern NC, there's not very much in the way of european cars (running or not running). After a search, I came across this site and contacted their parts people. It may seem a little steep for a plastic part, but I got a clean 240 reservoir for $25 shipped.
This may be an option for someone who's having difficulty locating one like I was...
email: info at swedishengineering dot com
MURZI, thanks for the idea... the reservoir fits beautifully (like oem). |

Just buy a beetle master cylinder for a 67 up beetle......any kind. Pull the nipples and measure them with an open end wrench, they will be 10mm or 13mm. If 10mm get a rabbit res... easy I have one for you, If 13mm use the Volvo res. That is it. Don't buy a super beetle style.
and yes after looking at the first m/c that IS for a bus....DON't get that one.
Any parts house should have a 67 up beetle MC, but the ad on the samba will work fine ...just don't get the super variety. _________________ 62 vert

Wow,
I thought this was easier, considering I already have the conversion on another car.
Murzi, I will defer to you since you since this tip is your creation. I believe your link is the same product that I originally posted up? If so I may have been on the right track. It was just the bus wording that threw me off.
In the hopes of saving a few pennies of going the CIP1 route, will this work?
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=418031
If not, I'll just pan down and go with the CIP1 unit.
Thanks for the time.
It is for sure a volvo ressy that I am using. |

The M/C you showed WAS a varga M/C .....look at the description......
"VWC-211-611-021-AA - MASTER CYLINDER - TRW/VARGA BRAND - MADE IN BRASIL - BUS 71-79 - (SEE NOTES ABOUT GROMMETS and RESERVOIR)"
The varga takes the Volvo, ATE german takes the rabbit.
Get A M/C then find the right res.
It is all a matter of nipple size.
