In my opinion, the best SS bumpers are the ones that are additionally chromed and painted in the inner side for the most original look. The fitment is superb.

Hi guys, I've just purchased a 1961 aussie bug and whilst cleaning up the rear bumper I have found a VW stamp.
My question is, we're the original bumpers SS or not, and if they are do I still need to paint the inside or can it be polished by hand?

Thanks.

I bought a stainless steel front bumper from Helen and installed it yesterday. The package was delivered by UPS, and arrived intact and undamaged.

The finished mirror like surfaces of the blade, towel bar, and bumperettes are very impressive, while the back sides of the blade and bumperettes are nicely painted in a medium gray color. The bumperettes were also marked indicating which side to install them on. The stainless steel is much thinner and lighter than the OG German pieces I removed, so even the slightest hit will probably significantly damage this bumper

Installation was easy, with all of the provided stainless steel fasteners fitting as intended...however I did have to retap the threads on one end of the towel bar in order to get a screw started and tightened properly.

Once I had everything checked and adjusted for level, plumb, and distance from the fenders, I tightened all of the fasteners and applied a liberal coat of wax to all surfaces.

Overall, I’m pleased with the fit and finish of the bumper, however, the bumperettes don’t sit perfectly plumb. Practically unnoticeable by eye, but putting a level on them shows the driver’s side bumperette lists a degree or two outboard while the passenger side bumperette lists slightly inboard.

I’m interested in buying a set of SS bumpers for my ‘67 Beetle.

I’ve emailed PTT and private messaged Helen through Samba, however, I haven’t received a response.

Does anyone know if they are still in business? What’s the best way to contact them?

For the garaged bug, which we take out every weekend, I've had them since 2012. Take a look at my gallery, it's the blue bug.

For my 60 beetle, it stays in the driveway or street and those have been on for a little over a year. I don't have updated pics of the white bug with the stainless bumpers in my gallery

They both look good as new. I even found stainless hubcaps to match both bugs

How long have you had them? Is it a daily driver? Garaged? Thanks so much!

So what's the latest on this guys?

Hows the stainless bumpers supplied from PTT (Helen) holding up? And were the fitment issues for beetle sorted out?
I see the ghia guys have very little complaints about them now.

Has anyone bought the stainless from cip1? How do they compare to the bumpers supplied by PTT??

After being directed over here by Everett, I find that most of my questions / concerns have been addressed in previous posts / discussions in this thread. Thanks!

Anyone had any experience (positive or negative) with a Vietnameses supplier of 55 to 67 VW Beetle stainless steel bumpers? The call themselves PHAM TAN TAI CO., LTD and have a website at www.sgbumperscar.com. They're running ads on the eBay-owned Kijjii website in Canada, using a Quebec-based address, but correspondence is coming directly from Vietnam. They're quoting a 'delivered' price for a complete set of front and rear US style stainless steel bumpers of $546 USD ...that's about $720 CDN at current exhange rates. Price sounds great, but of course build and quality concerns raise the eyebrows ...
Comments??

I purchased a WW front bumper with overriders a couple years ago for my wife's '67 to replace a rusting repro bumper that came with the car. The car is parked at the beach most days in the summer months. The WW bumper assembled easily and fit the car perfectly. BUT - within a year the new bumper was spotted with corrosion despite regular washing and waxing. Now some of the chrome has started to peel off.

Meanwhile the original rear bumper is hanging tough, no rust at all.

So I'm hoping to find a good SS replacement...

Curious that you had assemble them. The ones I got were already assembled when they arrived. They were the top quality ones, I know they were also selling an “economy” version back when I bought the ones I got. Did you buy those instead?

I've been running stainless as well for 4 years. They look as good as day one but my car is always garaged when not driven
